Speed the Light

Author: Anna D. Bradley Appears in 9 hymnals First Line: There’s a land beyond the sea Refrain First Line: Speed the light, or else we die Lyrics: 1 There’s a land beyond the sea Where the fields are white and fair; Hear the cry, oh, souls redeemed— From the lost ones over there. Refrain: Speed the light, or else we die; Souls redeemed, oh, speed the light. Heed, oh heed, our anguished cry— Speed the light, oh, speed the light. 2 Hear our cry, for soon for us Day will sink in endless night; Give us help ere ’tis too late— Speed the light, oh speed the light. [Refrain] 3 Still they cry! Give heed, oh soul, Jesus died that they might live; Dare ye turn a deafened ear? Dare refuse the light to give? [Refrain] 4 Know, my soul, ’tis not enough That you sing and softly pray; Speed the light, oh, speed the light! Jesus calls—do not delay. [Refrain] Used With Tune: [There’s a land beyond the sea] Text Sources: Zion's Battle Cry by James H. Rosecrans (Cincinnati: J. H. Rosecrans, 1895)
