He Understands

Author: Sophie E. Morgan Appears in 3 hymnals First Line: There's a quiet retreat, where with Jesus I meet Refrain First Line: He knows, he knows, Ev'ry sorrow I bear Lyrics: 1 There's a quiet retreat, where with Jesus I meet, And my burdens I place in His hands; Ev'ry sorrow I bear, ev'ry heart-breaking care, Jesus knows, and He understands. He knows, (And He understands,) He knows, (And He understands;) Ev'ry sorrow I bear, ev'ry heart-breaking care, Jesus knows, and He understands. 2 When o'ercome by my grief, nothing brings such relief As the touch of His comforting hands; Ev'ry burden He bore for my sins o'er and oe'r, Jesus knows, and He understands. He knows, (And He understands,) He knows, (And He understands;) Ev'ry burden He bore for my sins o'er and oe'r, Jesus knows, and He understands. 3 When my friends all forsake, and my sad heart would break, I reach out to His beckoning hands; They were wounded for me, that thro' faith I might see, Jesus knows, and He understands. He knows, (And He understands,) He knows, (And He understands;) They were wounded for me, that thro' faith I might see, Jesus knows, and He understands. 4 Whether weary or sad, whether cheerful or glad, I will cling to those nail-pierced hands; For they point day be day to my Home far away, Jesus knows, and He understands. He knows, (And He understands,) He knows, (And He understands;) For they point day be day to my Home far away, Jesus knows, and He understands.
