From East to West, from Shore to Shore

Author: Caelius Sedulius; John Ellerton Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 40 hymnals Lyrics: 1. From east to west, from shore to shore, Let every heart awake and sing The holy Child whom Mary bore, The Christ, the everlasting King. 2. Behold, the world’s Creator wears The form and fashion of a slave; Our very flesh our Maker shares, His fallen creature, man, to save. 3. For this how wondrously He wrought! A maiden, in her lowly place, Became, in ways beyond all thought, The chosen vessel of His grace. 4. She bowed her to the angel’s word Declaring what the Father willed, And suddenly the promised Lord That pure and hallowed temple filled. 5. He shrank not from the oxen’s stall, He lay within the manger bed, And He whose bounty feedeth all At Mary’s breast Himself was fed. 6. And while the angels in the sky Sang praise above the silent field, To shepherds poor the Lord Most High, The one great Shepherd, was revealed. 7. All glory for this blessèd morn To God the Father ever be; All praise to Thee, O virgin born, All praise, O Holy Ghost, to Thee. Used With Tune: TRINITY COLLEGE Text Sources: Church Hymns, 1871

The Father's Sole Begotten Son

Author: Anonymous; Thomas B. Pollock Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 4 hymnals Lyrics: 1. The Father’s sole begotten Son Was born, the virgin’s Child, on earth; His cross for us adoption won, The life and grace of second birth. 2. Forth from the height of Heav’n He came, In form of man with man abode; Redeemed His world from death and shame, The joys of endless life bestowed. 3. Redeemer, come with power benign, Dwell in the souls that look for Thee; O let Thy light within us shine That we may Thy salvation see. 4. Abide with us, O Lord, we pray, Dispel the gloom of doubt and woe; Wash every stain of guilt away, Thy tender healing grace bestow. 5. Lord, Thou hast come, and well we know That Thou wilt likewise come again; Thy kingdom shield from every foe, Thy honor and Thy rule maintain. 6. Eternal glory, Lord, to Thee, Whom, now revealed, our hearts adore; To God the Father glory be, And Holy Spirit evermore.

Used With Tune: TRINITY COLLEGE
