Choosing

Author: Mrs. C. H. Morris Hymnal: Great Revival Hymns No. 2 #21 (1913) First Line: You must do something with Jesus tonight Refrain First Line: Soul, are you here tonight? Lyrics: 1 You must do something with Jesus tonight, For or against Him are we; Choosing to walk in salvation’s pure light, Or still in darkness to be. Refrain: Soul, are you here tonight? Soul, are you here tonight? Just now you choose Him, or you refuse Him; You must do something tonight. 2 You must do something with Jesus tonight, Still upon trial is He; Many deny and “away with him” cry; Neutral you never can be. [Refrain] 3 You must do something with Jesus tonight, Tomorrow’s sun may not rise; Now is held out to you blindness or sight, Choose, and in choosing be wise. [Refrain] 4 You must do something with Jesus tonight, Some one is waiting for you; You may lead some precious soul to the light If you will dare to be true. [Refrain] 5 This will I do with the Savior tonight: Gladly I’ll open the door; Bid Him come in as my Guest to abide,. Leave me alone nevermore. [Refrain] Languages: English Tune Title: [You must do something with Jesus tonight]

Mrs. C. H. Morris

1862 - 1929 Author of "Choosing" Lelia (Mrs. C.H.) Morris (1862-1929) was born in Pennsville, Morgan County, Ohio. When her family moved to Malta on the Muskingum River she and her sister and mother had a millinery shop in McConnelsville. She and her husband Charles H. Morris were active in the Methodist Episcopal Church and at the camp meetings in Sebring and Mt. Vernon. She wrote hymns as she did her housework. Although she became blind at age 52 she continued to write hymns on a 28-foot long blackboard that her family had built for her. She is said to have written 1000 texts and many tunes including "Sweeter as the years go by." Mary Louise VanDyke
