I'm pressing on the upward way, New heights I'm gaining ev'ry day; Still praying as I onward bound, "Lord, plant my feet on higher ground." Refrain: Lord, lift me up and let me stand, By faith, on heaven's tableland, A higher plane than I have found; Lord, plant my feet on higher ground. 2. My heart has no desire to stay Where doubts arise and fears dismay; Though some may dwell where these abound, My prayer, my aim is higher ground. [Refrain] 3. I want to live above the world, Though Satan's darts at me are hurled; For faith has caught the joyful sound, The song of saints on higher ground. [Refrain] 4. How Shall I Follow Him I Serve?

Author: Josiah Conder Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 80 hymnals Scripture: Philippians 3:8 Lyrics: 1 How shall I follow Him I serve? How shall I copy Him I love? Nor from those blessed footsteps swerve, Which lead me to His seat above? 2 Privations, sorrows, bitter scorn, The life of toil, the mean abode, The faithless kiss, the crown of thorn,-- Are these the consecrated road? 3 'Twas thus He suffered, though a Son, Foreknowing, choosing, feeling all, Until the perfect work was done, And drunk the bitter cup of gall. 4 Lord, should my path through suffering lie, Forbid it I should e'er repine; Still let me turn to Calvary, Nor heed my griefs, remembering Thine. 5 O let me think how Thou didst leave Untasted every pure delight, To fast, to faint, to watch, to grieve, The toilsome day, the homeless night: 6 To faint, to grieve, to die for me! Thou camest not Thyself to please: And, dear as earthly comforts be, Shall I not love Thee more than these? 7 Yes, I would count them all but loss, To gain the notice of Thine eye: Flesh shrinks and trembles at the cross, But Thou canst give the victory. Amen. Topics: Church Year Lent; Sexagesima; Lenten Hymns; Lent, First Sunday; Holy Week; Cross-bearing; Trials Used With Tune: MARYTON

Here, O My Lord, I See Thee

Author: Horatius Bonar Meter: 10.10.10.10 Appears in 316 hymnals Scripture: Philippians 3:9 Lyrics: 1 Here, O my Lord, I see Thee face to face; Here would I touch and handle things unseen, Here grasp with firmer hand th'eternal grace, And all my weariness upon Thee lean. 2 Here would I feed upon the bread of God; Here drink with Thee the royal wine of heav'n; Here would I lay aside each earthly load, Here taste afresh the calm of sin forgiv'n. 3 I have no help but Thine; nor do I need Another arm save Thine to lean upon; It is enough, my Lord, enough indeed; My strength is in Thy might, Thy might alone. 4 Mine is the sin, but Thine the righteousness; Mine is the guilt, but Thine the cleansing blood. Here is my robe, my refuge, and my peace; Thy blood, Thy righteousness, O Lord, my God. Amen. Topics: Fellowship with God Used With Tune: LANGRAN

He Is So Precious to Me

Author: C. H. G. Meter: 11.11.11.8 with refrain Appears in 163 hymnals Scripture: Philippians 3:8 First Line: So precious is Jesus, my Savior, my King Refrain First Line: For He is so precious to me Lyrics: 1 So precious is Jesus, my Savior, my King; His praise all the day long with rapture I sing; To Him in my weakness for strength I can cling, For He is so precious to me. Refrain: For He is so precious to me, For He is so precious to me; ’Tis heaven below, my Redeemer to know, For He is so precious to me. 2 He stood at my heart’s door ’mid sunshine and rain, And patiently waited an entrance to gain; What shame that so long He entreated in vain, For He is so precious to me. [Refrain] 3 I stand on the mountain of blessing at last, No cloud in the heavens a shadow to cast, His smile is upon me; the valley is past, For He is so precious to me. [Refrain] 4 I praise Him because He appointed a place Where someday, through faith in His wonderful grace, I know I shall see Him, shall look on His face, For He is so precious to me. Hymn 109

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 211 hymnals Scripture: Philippians 3:7-9 First Line: No more, my God, I boast no more Lyrics: No more, my God, I boast no more Of all the duties I have done; I quit the hopes I held before, To trust the merits of thy Son. Now, for the love I bear his name, What was my gain I count my loss; My former pride I call my shame, And nail my glory to his cross. Yes, and I must and will esteem All things but loss for Jesus' sake: O may my soul be found in him, And of his righteousness partake! The best obedience of my hands Dares not appear before thy throne; But faith can answer thy demands By pleading what my Lord has done.
