Psalm 146

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 117 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 146 First Line: Praise ye the Lord, my heart shall join Lyrics: Praise ye the Lord, my heart shall join In work so pleasant, so divine; Now, while the flesh is mine abode, And when my soul ascends to God. Praise shall employ my noblest powers, While immortality endures; My days of praise shall ne'er be past, While life, and thought, and being last. Why should I make a man my trust? Princes must die and turn to dust; Their breath departs, their pomp, and power, And thoughts, all vanish in an hour. Happy the man whose hopes rely On Isr'el's God; he made the sky, And earth, and seas, with all their train, And none shall find his promise vain. His truth for ever stands secure; He saves th' oppressed, he feeds the poor; He sends the lab'ring conscience peace, And grants the pris'ner sweet release. The Lord hath eyes to give the blind; The Lord supports the sinking mind; He helps the stranger in distress, The widow and the fatherless. He loves his saints, he knows them well, But turns the wicked down to hell: Thy God, O Zion! ever reigns; Praise him in everlasting strains. Topics: Goodness of God; Souls in separate state; Creatures no trust in them; Mercies and truth of God; Afflicted and tempted, supported; Truth grace, and protection; Princes vain; Trust in the creatures vain; Faithfulness Of God; God goodness and truth; God kind to his people; God worthy of all praise

Psalm 146

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Appears in 527 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 146 First Line: I'll praise my Maker with my breath Lyrics: I'll praise my Maker with my breath, And when my voice is lost in death, Praise shall employ my nobler powers My days of praise shall ne'er be past, While life, and thought, and being last, Or immortality endures. Why should I make a man my trust? Princes must die and turn to dust; Vain is the help of flesh and blood: Their breath departs, their pomp, and power, And thoughts, all vanish in an hour, Nor can they make their promise good. Happy the man whose hopes rely On Isr'el's God: he made the sky, And earth, and seas, with all their train: His truth for ever stands secure; He saves th' oppressed, he feeds the poor, And none shall find his promise vain. The Lord hath eyes to give the blind; The Lord supports the sinking mind; He sends the lab'ring conscience peace; He helps the stranger in distress, The widow and the fatherless, And grants the pris'ner sweet release. He loves his saints, he knows them well, But turns the wicked down to hell; Thy God, O Zion! ever reigns: Let every tongue, let every age, In this exalted work engage; Praise him in everlasting strains. I'll praise him while he lends me breath; And when my voice is lost in death, Praise shall employ my nobler powers: My days of praise shall ne'er be past, While life, and thought, and being last, Or immortality endures.

Praise ye the Lord: him praise, my soul

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 10 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 146 Lyrics: 1 Praise ye the Lord: him praise, my soul. 2 I’ll praise God while I live; while I have being to my God in songs I’ll praises give. 3 Trust not in princes, nor man’s son, in whom there is no stay: 4 his breath departs, to’s earth he turns; that day his thoughts decay. 5 O happy is that man and blest, whom Jacob’s God doth aid; whose hope upon the Lord doth rest, and on his God is stayed: 6 who made the earth and heavens high, who made the swelling deep, and all that is within the same; who truth doth ever keep: 7 Who righteous judgment executes for those oppressed that be, who to the hungry giveth food; and sets the prisoners free. 8 The Lord doth give the blind their sight, the bowed down doth raise: the Lord doth dearly love all those that walk in upright ways. 9 The stranger’s shield, the widow’s stay, the orphan’s help is he: but yet by him the wicked’s way turned upside down shall be. 10 The Lord shall reign for evermore: thy God, O Zion, he to generations all shall reign. Praise to the Lord give ye. Used With Tune: ABRIDGE (ST STEPHEN)

Praise the Almighty

Lyrics: 1 Praise the Almighty, my soul, adore Him! Yes, I will laud Him until death; With songs and anthems I come before Him As long as He allows me breath. From Him my life and all things came; Bless, O my soul, His holy name. Allelujah, allelujah! 2 Trust not in rulers; they are but mortal; Earth-born they are and soon decay. Vain are their counsels at life's last portal, When the dark grave engulfs its prey. Since mortals can no help afford, Place all your trust in Christ, our Lord. Allelujah, allelujah! 3 Blessed, oh, blessed are they forever Whose help is from the Lord Most High, Whom from salvation can nothing sever, And who in hope to Christ draw nigh. To all who trust in Him, our Lord Will aid and counsel now afford. Allelujah, allelujah! 4 Penitent sinners, for mercy crying, Pardon and peace from Him obtain; Ever the wants of the poor supplying, Their faithful God He will remain. He helps His children in distress, The widows and the fatherless. Allelujah, allelujah! 5 Praise, all you people, the name so holy Of Him who does such wondrous things! All that has being, to praise Him solely, With happy heart its amen sings. Children of God, with angel host Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Allelujah, allelujah! Praise the LORD! Sing Hallelujah

Appears in 5 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 146 First Line: Praise the LORD! Sing hallelujah! Lyrics: 1 Praise the LORD! Sing hallelujah! Come, our great Redeemer praise. I will sing the glorious praises of my God through all my days. Put no confidence in princes, nor on human help depend. They shall die, to dust returning; all their thoughts and plans shall end. 2 Happy are the ones professing Jacob's God to be their aid. They are blest whose hope of blessing on the LORD their God is stayed. Heav'n and earth the LORD created, seas and all that they contain. He delivers from oppression; righteousness he will maintain. 3 Food he daily gives the hungry, sets the mourning pris'ner free, raises those bowed down with anguish, makes the sightless eyes to see. God our Savior loves the righteous, and the stranger he befriends, helps the orphan and the widow, judgment on the wicked sends. 4 Praise the LORD! Sing hallelujah! Come, our great Redeemer praise. I will sing the glorious praises of my God through all my days. Over all God reigns forever; through all ages he is King. Unto him, your God, O Zion, joyful hallelujahs sing.
