What shall the dying sinner do

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 107 hymnals Scripture: Romans 1:16 Lyrics: What shall the dying sinner do That seeks relief for all his woe? Where shall the guilty conscience find Ease for the torment of the mind? How shall we get our crimes forgiv'n? Or form our natures fit for heav'n? Can souls all o'er defiled with sin Make their own powers and passions clean? In vain we search, in vain we try, Till Jesus brings his gospel nigh; 'Tis there such power and glory dwell As save rebellious souls from hell. This is the pillar of our hope That bears our fainting spirits up: We read the grace, we trust the word, And find salvation in the Lord. Let men or angels dig the mines, Where nature's golden treasure shines; Brought near the doctrine of the cross, All nature's gold appears but dross. Should vile blasphemers with disdain Pronounce the truths of Jesus vain, I'll meet the scandal and the shame, And sing and triumph in his name.

Worship the Lord in the Beauty of Holiness

Author: John Samuel Bewley Monsell (1811-1875) Meter: 12.10.12.10 Appears in 146 hymnals Scripture: Romans 1:1-7 Lyrics: 1 Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; bow down before him, his glory proclaim; gold of obedience and incense of lowliness bring, and adore him: the Lord is his name. 2 Low at his feet lay thy burden of carefulness, high on his heart he will bear it for thee, comfort thy sorrows, and answer thy prayerfulness, guiding thy steps as may best for thee be. 3 Fear not to enter his courts in the slenderness of the poor wealth thou canst reckon as thine; truth in its beauty, and love in its tenderness, these are the offerings to lay on his shrine. 4 These, though we bring them in trembling and fearfulness, he will accept for the name that is dear; mornings of joy give for evenings of tearfulness, trust for our trembling, and hope for our fear. 5 Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; bow down before him, his glory proclaim; gold of obedience and incense of lowliness bring, and adore him; the Lord is his name! Topics: Epiphany (feast); Gathering of the Community; Offertory; Praise of God Used With Tune: ÜTTINGEN (WAS LEBET)
