எரியும் புல்லைப்போல்,
சுற்றும் முற்றும் பரவினும்
தயவாய் காக்கிறார்.

2 இன்னமும் காப்பேன் காத்திடுவேன்,
பாவத்தால் கோபமே,
என் பொறுமை இன்னும் உண்டு
மீட்டிடுவேன் காப்பேன்.

3 இக்கருணை யார் போற்றுவார்,
மனதுருக்கமும்,
நொந்துள்ளோர்க்கு யார் சொன்னாரோ?
உம் முகம் நோக்கவே.

4 இப்படியான நாட்களில்,
வந்தும்பாதம் வீழ்ந்து,
மீண்டும் உம்மை கோபமூட்ட,
செல்வோம் பாவ வாழ்க்கை.

5 தூரே சென்றோம் யாம் விலகியே,
ஆண்டவர் அன்பினின்று,
எஞ்சியுள்ள நாம் பயந்தே
சோர்வால் அயர்ந்தோமே.

6 கண்டிக்கப்பட்டே மீட்க்கப்பட்டு,
உம் கரம் விட்டகன்றே,
இத்தீயில் யாமும் வீழ்வோமோ?
மாண்டே அழிவோமோ?

7 அழியும் அவ்வெளிச்சத்தால்,
மற்றோர் அறிவோமே,
உம் தீர்ப்பின் மா அகோரமே,
கண்டவர் உணர்வார்.

8 நீர் கேளும் பாவியாம் எம் ஓலம்,
உம் செவி சாய்த்திடும்,
பெலவீனரின் குரலே,
மனதுருகியே.

9 உம் தூய ஸ்வாசம் ஊதியே,
நல் ஒளி ஏற்றிடும்,
காப்பாற்றப்பட்டவராலே நீர்,
மகிமை கொள்வீரே.

Author: Philip Doddridge

Philip Doddridge (b. London, England, 1702; d. Lisbon, Portugal, 1751) belonged to the Non-conformist Church (not associated with the Church of England). Its members were frequently the focus of discrimination. Offered an education by a rich patron to prepare him for ordination in the Church of England, Doddridge chose instead to remain in the Non-conformist Church. For twenty years he pastored a poor parish in Northampton, where he opened an academy for training Non-conformist ministers and taught most of the subjects himself. Doddridge suffered from tuberculosis, and when Lady Huntington, one of his patrons, offered to finance a trip to Lisbon for his health, he is reputed to have said, "I can as well go to heaven from Lisbon as from Nort… Go to person page >
