Stichera of the Ascension

Now the Lord from earth ascending

Translator: John Brownlie
Published in 1 hymnal

Representative Text

Now the Lord from earth ascending,
Seeks the throne of heaven again,
That the Comforter, descending,
Might abide with sinful men.

Clouds His chariots, upwards rising
Bear Him proudly to the skies;
Heaven beholds a sight surprising,
Man above the angels rise.

Lift your gates ye powers supernal;
All ye nations come adore;
For the Christ to realms eternal,
Goes to dwell forevermore.
