Hymnary Friends,

Please pardon this brief interruption, and please consider a gift today to support the work of Hymnary.org. Here's why.

Each month half a million people visit this website for free access to the most complete database of North American hymnody on the planet. But this project does not come without a cost, and we have limited sources of revenue. Twice a year we hold a fund drive, and these drives are critical to our future.

So if you benefit from Hymnary.org, would you consider a donation today? Even small amounts help, and they also let us know you're behind us and support what we do.

Click the Donate button below to be taken to a secure giving site. Or you can make your tax-deductible contribution by sending a check to Hymnary.org at 3201 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

On behalf of the entire Hymnary.org team, our thanks.
Harry Plantinga

O praise ye the Lord, prepare a new song

Representative Text

1 O praise ye the Lord! prepare a new song;
And let all his saints in full concert join:
With voices united the anthem prolong,
And shew forth his praises with music divine.

2 Let praise to the Lord, who made us, ascend;
Let each grateful heart be glad in its King;
For God, whom we worship, our songs will attend,
And view with complacence the off'ring we bring.

3 Be joyful, ye saints, sustain'd by his might,
And let your glad songs awake with each morn:
For those who obey him are still his delight;
His hand with salvation the meek will adorn.

4 Then praise ye the Lord! prepare a glad song;
And let all his saints in full concert join;
With voices united the anthem prolong,
And shew forth his praises with music divine.

In 1725 he changed his residence to Market Harborough, still ministering at Kibworth. The settled work of his life as a preceptor and divine began in 1729, with his appointment to the Castle Hill Meeting at Northampton, and continued till in the… Go to person page >

LYONS

LYONS, named for the French city Lyons, appeared with a reference to “Haydn” in volume 2 of William Gardiner’s (PHH 111) Sacred Melodies. However, the tune was never found in the works of Franz Joseph Haydn or those of his younger brother Johann Michael Haydn. Recent research revealed that the…
