Representative Text

1 O where, where today are the sheep of the fold,
Those for whom the dear Shepherd has died,
Those for whom he has sought thro’ the night bleak and cold,
Over torrent and steep mountain side?
Tell me where, tell me where,
Tell me where are the lost sheep today?

Refrain:
Still echoing down from the rough mountain steep,
The voice of the Shepherd is calling his sheep,
The lost ones, the dear ones,
The Shepherd is calling his sheep!

2 And where are the lambs to his great heart so dear?
Are they out on the mountains astray?
Are they far, far away from his kind loving care?
Tell me where are the young lambs today?
Tell me where, tell me where,
Tell me where are the young lambs today? [Refrain]

3 O ye who are out on the mountains of sin,
Heed the voice of the Shepherd so true,
Evermore his seeking the lost ones to win,
And his mercy includes me and you,
Even me, even you,
And his mercy includes me and you. [Refrain]

4 Tho’ the ninety and nine may be safe in the fold,
While there’s one lost in sin and undone,
Will the Shepherd go forth and his dear voice be heard,
As he calls for his wandering one,
As he calls, sweetly calls,
As he calls for his wandering one. [Refrain]

Morris were active in the Methodist Episcopal Church and at the camp meetings in Sebring and Mt. Vernon. She wrote hymns as she did her housework. Although she became blind at age 52 she continued to write hymns on a 28-foot long blackboard that her family had built for her.
