Yolanda Pupo-Ortiz was the first Hispanic/Latina woman received in full connection (1983) into the former Southern New England Conference of the United Methodist Church. Pupo-Ortiz was raised in Cuba in a Quaker family. She converted to Methodism upon her marriage, and is known for her distinctive and prophetic contribution to Hispanic preaching. Go to person page >

Raquel Martinez (b. January 17, 1940) is a well-known composer and arranger of Hispanic songs and hymns. She has degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso and Perkins School of Theology and the School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University. She served as editor of the official United Methodist hymnal, Mil Voces Para Celebrar (Nashville: Abingdon Press, 1996).
