We don't often ask for money. Just twice a year. This is one of those times.

So, please, before you hit the "close" button on this box, would you consider a donation to keep Hymnary.org going?

In April 2020, according to Google Analytics, our Hymnary website had roughly 1.5 million sessions from approximately 1 million users. Both numbers were up 40% from April 2019. Amazing. And what a blessing! But it is expensive to serve all of these people -- worship leaders, hymnologists, hymn lovers and more -- people like you who love hymns.

And we have limited sources of revenue. This fund drive is one critical source.

So if you benefit from Hymnary.org, would you please consider a donation today? Even small amounts help, and they also let us know you're behind us and support what we do.

You can make your tax-deductible contribution by sending a check to Hymnary.org at 3201 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, or you can click the Donate button below.

1 Sørgendes Husvaler,
Sandheds Tolk og Taler,
Raads og Styrkes Aand,
Stærke Guddoms Finger,
Fredens Overbringer,
Liv i Dødens Land!
Giv os Kraft og Livsens Saft!
Lad os al din Himmelgave
Overslødig have!

2 Giv os Glød paa Tunge
Til at tale, sjunge
Herrens pris paa Jord,
Lær os ret at bede,
Selv du for os træde
Frem med skjulte Ord!
Giv o Mod i Hjerterod,
Styrk os Troen af det Høie,
Let os al vor Møie!

3 Himmellys, lad dages,
Naadebrønd, lad drages
Vand for tørstigt Sind!
Naadesalve, læg mig
Himmelmagt, bevæg mig,
Drag til Gud mig ind!
Mig omskyg, Guds Temple byg,
At din Alter-Ild den brænder,
Naar jeg Gud bekjender!

4 Dug af Himmerige,
Markerne de skrige
Efter Foraars-Regn,
Lad nu Strømme flyde,
Sæden overgyde
I hver Himmelegn!
Giv den Nod og Trivsel god,
Lad med Frugt din Have smykkes,
Og lad Guds Ord lykkes!

5 Giv i alle Sager
Værk og Vilje fager,
Led os i dit Lys!
Se ind til vor Jammer,
Gjør vort Hjerte-Kammer
Til dit eget Hus!
Løs os dog af Syndens Aag,
Lad os fri i Kristus findes,
Til Guds Hjerte bindes!

6 Giv i Korset Styrke,
Lys i Dødens Mørke,
Trøst paa Trængsels Vei,
Løst til Himlens Høie
Hjerte, Aand og Øie!
Og forlad os ei,
Naar i Død og sidste Nød
Satan skyder Skræk i Bringe!
Hjælp, vi ham kan tvinge!

7 Lad os da saalænge
Fast ved Jesus hænge,
Staa i Naadens Stand,
Alt vort Liv forskjønnes
I det Gode grønnes
Som et frugtbart Land,
Til vi naar Guds Riges Vaar,
Paradisets Roser bryde,
Evig der os fryde!

Schmolck, Benjamin, son of Martin Schmolck, or Schmolcke, Lutheran pastor at Brauchitschdorf (now Chrόstnik) near Liegnitz in Silesia (now Poland) was born at Brauchitschdorf, Dec. 21, 1672. He entered the Gymnasium at Lauban in 1688, and spent five years there. After his return home he preached for his father a sermon which so struck the patron of the living that he made Benjamin an allowance for three years to enable him to study theology. He matriculated, at Michaelmas, 1693, at the University of Leipzig, where he came under the influence of J. Olearius, J. B. Carpzov, and others, and throughout his life retained the character of their teaching, viz. a warm and living practical Christianity, but Churchly in tone and not Pietistic. Magnus Brostrup Landstad (born 7 October 1802 in Måsøy, Norway and died 8 October 1880 in Kristiania) was a Norwegian minister, psalmist and poet who published the first collection of authentic Norwegian traditional ballads in 1853. This work was criticized for unscientific methods, but today it is commonly accepted that he contributed significantly to the preservation of the traditional ballads. Landstad lived with his father Hans Landstad (1771–1838) who was also a minister, first in 1806 to Øksnes, to Vinje in 1811 and to Seljord in 1819. He took a theological degree (cand. theol) in 1827, and worked after that as the resident chaplain in Gausdal for six years. After that he worked in different parishes in Telemark, Østfold befo… Go to person page >
