We don't often ask for money. Just twice a year. This is one of those times.

So, please, before you hit the "close" button on this box, would you consider a donation to keep Hymnary.org going?

In April 2020, according to Google Analytics, our Hymnary website had roughly 1.5 million sessions from approximately 1 million users. Both numbers were up 40% from April 2019. Amazing. And what a blessing! But it is expensive to serve all of these people -- worship leaders, hymnologists, hymn lovers and more -- people like you who love hymns.

And we have limited sources of revenue. This fund drive is one critical source.

So if you benefit from Hymnary.org, would you please consider a donation today? Even small amounts help, and they also let us know you're behind us and support what we do.

You can make your tax-deductible contribution by sending a check to Hymnary.org at 3201 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, or you can click the Donate button below.

1 Vort Maaltid vi da slutte nu,
Og fulde vore Hænder,
Og komme dig, vor Gud, ihu
Med Tak til Jordens Ender;
For Ro og Fred
Og Førlighed
Og dette Maaltids Spise
Af Luft og Vand,
Af Skov og Land
Vi dig af Hjertet prise!

2 O Gud, hvor mangen løber om
Og efter Brødet leder,
Hvis fattig' Haand er ofte tom,
Hver bønlig han end beder;
Hvor mange staar
I Værk og Saar
Beklemt og lider ilde,
Og raaber paa
En Bid at faa
Af det, vi haanlig spilde!

3 O, lad os ei vor Brødkurv hen
Bag Laas og Lukke sætte,
Før at den hungrig' Jesu Ven
Sit Stykke faar af dette,
Som efter er
Af Levninger,
Til Trøst i Hungers Vaade!
Vort Forraads Tal
Ei minke skal,
Men vokse til i Naade.

4 Gud signe os i Jesu Navn,
Som vil os daglig mætte!
Vi gaa nu til vort Værk og Gavn
I Gudsfrygt at forrette;
O gid vort Brød
En Andens Nød
Og Taarer ei maa væde,
Men Ret og Skjel
Lad følges vel
Med Kjærlighed og Glæde!

5 Naar da i Verden intet Brød
Vor Tunge mer vil smage,
Gid da imellem Liv og Død
Vi Livsens Brød maa tage,
Og Sjæl og Aand
I Jesu Haand
Med Hjertens Glæde skikke,
Og Livsens Flod
I Jesu Blod
Til sidste Afsked drikke!

He belonged to a rather poor family partly of Scottish origin and was educated a clergyman. In his youth, Kingo wrote a series of poems picturing humorous scenes in village life and a pastoral love poem, Chrysillis. He studied theology at the University of Copenhagen, graduating in 1654, and for some time acted as private tutor. In 1661 he was appointed vicar to the pastor at Kirke Helsinge, and in 1668 he was ordained a minister at his native town, where his poetic activity began.
