1 The royal banners forward go,
the cross shines forth in mystic glow;
upon it life did death endure,
and yet by death did life procure.
2 That which the prophet King of old
hath in myterious verse foretold
is now accomplished while we see
that God is reigning from a tree!
3 Blest tree, most sacred and divine,
which dost in royal purple shine,
supporting an incarnate God,
and rendered holy by thy load!
4 Blest tree, whose happy branches bore
the wealth that did the world restore,
the balance which the price which weigh
that spoiled the spoiler of his prey!
5 Blest Trinity, life's source and spring,
may ev'ry soul thy praises sing!
Let those obtain a crown in heav'n
to whom the cross has conquest giv'n!
Amen!
That which the prophet King of old
hath in mysterious verse forefold
is now accomplished while we see
that God is reigning from a tree.
