Huntington attended Syracuse University in New York, and was ordained a Methodist Episcopal minister in 1853. He pastored in Rochester, New York (1861-71 & 1876-79); Syracuse, New York (1873-76); Olean, New York (1885-89); Bradford, Pennsylvania (1882-85 & 1889-91); and Lincoln, Nebraska (1891-96). He served as chancellor of Nebraska Wesleyan University (1898-1908), and in 1908 became professor of English Bible there.
