1629 - 1701 Person Name: Ahasverus Fritsch, 1629-1701 Scripture: Matthew 11:9-14 Composer of "WAS FRAG ICH NACH DER WELT" in Lutheran Service Book Born: December 16, 1629, Mücheln, Saxony. Died: August 24, 1701, Rudolstadt, Germany. With help from the family of a young noble he tutored, Fritsch received a good education, earning his law degree from the University of Jena in 1661. He later became chancellor of the university and president of the Consistory of Rudolstadt. He wrote on numerous subjects, including antiquities, law, and religion, and collected hymns. Samuel Kinner

1603 - 1668 Person Name: Samuel Kinner, 1603-68 Scripture: Matthew 11:28-29 Author of "Lord Jesus Christ, You Have Prepared" in Lutheran Service Book Kinner, Samuel, was a native of Breslau, and after he had graduated M.D. was for some time a physician there. He then entered the service of the Duke of Liegnitz-Brieg as Rath and Court Physician, and died at Brieg, Aug. 10, 1668, at the age of 65 (J. H. Cunradus's Silesia Togata, Liegnitz, 1706, p. 150). One hymn ascribed to him has been translated, viz.:— Herr Jesu Christ, du hast bereit. Holy Communion. In Jeremias Weber's Gesang-Buch, Leipzig, 1638, p. 394, in 8 st. of 7 l, entitled " A beautiful hymn on the Supper of the Lord. Samuel Kinner." In Burg's Gesang-Buch, Breslau, 1746, No. 1665, entitled "For worthy reception, before Holy Communion." Translated as:— Lord Jesus, Thou art truly good. A full and good translation by E. Charles Edward Pollock

1853 - 1928 Scripture: Matthew 11:28 Arranger of "Come, Ye Wanderers" in The Christian Hymnary. Bks. 1-4 Charles Edward Pollock USA 1853-1928. Born at Newcastle, PA, he moved to Jefferson City, MO, when age 17. He was a cane maker for C W Allen. He also worked 20 years for the MO Pacific Railroad, as a depot clerk and later as Assistant Roadmaster. He was a musician and prolific songwriter, composing 5000+ songs, mostly used in Sunday school settings and church settings. He took little remuneration for his compositions, preferring they be freely used. He produced three songbooks: “Praises”, “Beauty of praise”, and “Waves of melody”. In 1886 he married Martha (Mattie) Jane Harris, and they had three children: Robert, Edward, and a daughter. He died in Merriam, KS. John Perry ================= Pollock, Charles Edward. (Jefferson City, Missouri, 1853-1924). Records of Jefferson City indicate the following: 1897 clerk at depot; residence at 106 Broadway (with Mildred Pollock) 1904-1905 cane maker for C. W. 1883 - 1969 Person Name: S. D. Athans Scripture: Matthew 11:28 Translator of "Ven A Cristo" in Himnos de Gloria Speros Demetrios Athans was born 1883 in Turkey. Raised in the Greek Orthodox Church, Athans left home at age 15, after his father’s death. He spent two years on the island of Corfu, Greece, and two more in Egypt, then went to Great Britain, where he worked as a sailor. In 1903 he went to America, and during immigration processing, someone gave him a New Testament in Greek. A year later, he joined a Nazarene church in Chicago, Illinois. He then enrolled in a Bible school and university. While in school in California, he began to study Spanish and to work with the Latino community. In 1910 he decided to work in evangelism. Byers Scripture: Matthew 11:28 Composer of "[How sweet is the comfort and rest of my soul]" in Timeless Truths Andrew Linnaeus Byers was born on August 26, 1869 in Albany, Illinois. Byers’ mother was song writer Nancy Byers. In 1890 he became involved with Daniel Warner & Barney Warren in evangelistic work; later joined the Gospel Trumpet publishing company as music editor for a year. He left that work because of health problems and worked as an evangelist and pastor in Idaho & Oregon before taking a pastorate in Sacramento, California, in 1934. He died on November 9, 1952 in Sacramento, California. His works include: Birth of a Reformation: The Life and Labors of D. S. Warner, 1922 NN, Hymnary.
