Now That the daylight fills the sky

Author: John Mason Neale, 1818-66 Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 82 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 143:8-12 Lyrics: 1 Now that the daylight fills the sky, We lift our hearts to God on high, That He, in all we do or say, Would keep us free from harm today; 2 Would guard our hearts and tongues from strife; From anger's din would shield our life; From evil sights would turn our eyes, And close our ears to vanities. 3 So we, when this new day is gone And night in turn is drawing on, With conscience by the world unstained Shall praise His name for vict'ry gained. 4 "All praise to You, creator Lord! All praise to You, eternal Word! All praise to You, O Spirit wise!" We sing as daylight fills the skies. Topics: Beginning of Service Used With Tune: LAUREL Text Sources: Latin, c. 5th-6th cent.

Unanswered Yet

Author: F. G. Burroughs Meter: 11.10.11.10.10.10.10 Appears in 79 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 143:1 First Line: Unanswered yet? The prayer your lips have pleaded Lyrics: 1 Unanswered yet? The prayer your lips have pleaded In agony of heart these many years? Does faith begin to fail, is hope departing, And think you all in vain those falling tears? Say not the Father hath not heard your prayer; You shall have your desire, sometime, somewhere. 2 Unanswered yet? Though when you first presented This one petition at the Father’s throne, It seemed you could not wait the time of asking, So urgent was your heart to make it known. Though years have passed since then, do not despair; The Lord will answer you, sometime, somewhere. 3 Unanswered yet? But you are not unheeded; The promises of God forever stand; To Him our days and years alike are equal; “Have faith in God”; it is your Lord’s command. Hold on to Jacob’s angel and your prayer Shall bring a blessing down sometime, somewhere. 4 Unanswered yet? Nay, do not say ungranted; Perhaps your part is not yet wholly done; The work began when first your prayer was uttered, And God will finish what He has begun. If you will keep the incense burning there, His glory you shall see, sometime, somewhere. 5 Unanswered yet? Faith cannot be unanswered; Her feet were firmly planted on the Rock; Amid the wildest storm prayer stands undaunted, Nor quails before the loudest thunder shock. She knows Omnipotence has heard her prayer, And cries, “It shall be done,” sometime, somewhere. Used With Tune: [Unanswered yet? the prayer your lips are pleading] Text Sources: Anonymous/Unknown, The Blue Book (145)

Grimes Appears in 30 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 143:10 First Line: Teach me Thy will, O Lord, teach me Thy way Lyrics: 1 Teach me Thy will, O Lord, teach me Thy way; Teach me to know Thy Word, teach me to pray. Heal Thou sin's every smart, dwell Thou within my heart; Grant that I never part, Savior, from Thee. 3 Teach me by pain Thy power, teach me by love; Teach me to know each hour Thou art above. Teach me as seemeth best in Thee to find sweet rest; Leaning upon Thy breast, all doubt remove. 4 Teach Thou my lips to sing, my heart to praise; Be Thou my Lord and King thro' all my days. Teach Thou my soul to cry, "Be Thou, dear Savior, nigh, Teach me to live, to die, saved by Thy grace." Amen.
