Your Word Sheds Light upon My Path

Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 11 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Your word sheds light upon my path; a shining light, it guides my feet. Your righteous judgments to observe, my solemn vow I now repeat. 2 In my distress I plead with you; send help according to your word. Accept my sacrifice of praise and make me know your judgments, LORD. 3 When danger brings me close to death, your law stays with me night and day. The wicked lay a snare for me, yet from your truth I will not stray. 4 Your precepts are my heritage; they make my heart and soul rejoice. To keep your statutes faithfully shall ever be my willing choice. The Lord, How Wondrous Are His Ways

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 93 hymnals Lyrics: 1. The Lord, how wondrous are His ways! How firm His truth! How large His grace! He takes His mercy for His throne, And thence He makes His glories known. 2. Not half so high His power hath spread The starry heav’ns above our head, As His rich love exceeds our praise, Exceeds the highest hopes we raise. 3. Not half so far hath nature placed The rising morning from the west, As His forgiving grace removes The daily guilt of those He loves. 4. How slowly doth His wrath arise! On swifter wings salvation flies; And if He lets His anger burn, How soon His frowns to pity turn. 5. Amidst His wrath compassion shines; His strokes are lighter than our sins; And while His rod corrects His saints, His ear indulges their complaints. 6. So fathers their young sons chastise With gentle hand and melting eyes; The children weep beneath the smart, And move the pity of their heart. 7. The mighty God, the wise and just, Knows that our frame is feeble dust; And will no heavy loads impose Beyond the strength that He bestows. 8. He knows how soon our nature dies, Blasted by every wind that flies; Like grass we spring, and die as soon, Or morning flowers that fade at noon. 9. But His eternal love is sure To all the saints, and shall endure; From age to age His truth shall reign, Nor children’s children hope in vain. O Let My Supplicating Cry

Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 10 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O let my supplicating cry by you, my gracious LORD, be heard. Give wisdom and deliver me according to your faithful word. 2 Instructed in your holy law, to praise your word I lift my voice. Come, LORD, and be my present help, for your commandments are my choice. 3 For your salvation I have longed, my joy is in your law, O LORD. Now, let me live, your praise to sing; sustain me by your holy word. 4 Your servant, like a wandering sheep, has lost the path and gone astray. Restore my soul and lead me home, for your commands I would obey. Creator, Spirit, Holy Dove

Author: Dr. Martin Luther; Richard Massie Appears in 7 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Creator, Spirit, Holy Dove, Visit Thy people from above, Fill them with graces, and restore Thy creatures as they were before. 2 For Comforter is Thy sweet name, A gift which from the Highest came, A precious ointment from above, A living fount, a fire of love. 3 Our minds enlighten, and inspire Our souls with love's celestial fire; And since thou know'st how frail we be, Confirm and make us strong in Thee. 4 Thou, with Thy grace's sev'nfold band, The finger art on God's right hand; Thou dost the Father's promise send With tongues to earth's remotest end. 5 Drive far away our wily foe, And by Thy grace sweet peace bestow; That in Thy footsteps we may run, And soul-destroying mischief shun. 6 Let us by Thee the Father know, His Son, Christ Jesus, also show, That full of faith we may know Thee Derived from both eternally. 7 To God the Father, and the Son Who rose again, be honor done, With Him, who came at Pentecost, The Comforter, the Holy Ghost.
