1821 - 1875 Person Name: J. E. Gould Composer of "TAYLOR" in Songs of Gladness for the Sabbath School John Edgar Gould USA 1821-1875. Born in Bangor, ME, he became a musician. He managed music stores in New York City and Philadelphia, PA., the latter with composer partner, William Fischer. He married Josephine Louisa Barrows, and they had seven children: Blanche, Marie, Ida, John, Josephine, Josephine, and Augusta. He compiled eight religious songbooks from 1846 thru 1869. J. Howard Entwisle

1865 - 1901 Composer of "[Savior, breathe an evening blessing]" in Exalted Praise J Howard Entwisle USA 1865-1901. Born in PA, he became a musician and songbook editor-compiler in Philadelphia, PA, in the 1890s. He collaberated with William J Kirkpatrick, also of Philadelphia, promoting gospel songs. He helped compile “Songs of love and praise #4”, then later “Songs of love and praise #5”. Other published works were: “Bright melodies” (1899), “Heavenly sunlight” (1900), “Exalted praise” (1901). 1835 - 1910 Person Name: Stephen V. R. Ford Composer of "[Saviour, breathe an evening blessing]" in Imperial Songs Born: 1835, Greenville, New York. Died: June 5, 1910, New York City. Son of Cyrus Earle and Amanda Hedden Ford, Stephen wrote several battle hymns during the American civil war which were sung by Union soldiers. He was a partner in a shirt and collar making company, Ide & Ford, in Troy, New York (1865-72). In his later years, he was known as an author, editor, composer and critic. He was living in Schenectady, New York, in 1908. H. N. Lincoln

1859 - 1948 Composer of "[Saviour, breathe an evening blessing]" in Song-Land Messenger Complete Horace Neely Lincoln, 1859-1948. Horace was the son of James Lincoln and Emaline King, and husband of Etta Lee Thurmand (married 1887). He moved with his family to Texas when he was seven years old. At age 10, he began attending a singing school conducted by James M. Jolley of Mississippi. In 1880, he taught his first singing class in his old neighborhood school house. Later that year, he attended his first normal music school, taught at Mountain Home (now Holland), Texas. Lincoln had other musical training under L. B. Shook (a former student of Philip Bliss) and John McPherson of Illinois. In 1898, he graduated from the Chicago National College of Music, and in 1906 took a post-graduate course under Horatio Palmer. Albert J. Holden

1841 - 1916 Composer of "[Father, breathe an evening blessing]" in Evangel Songs A Founder of the American Guild of Organists and composer and editor of numerous pieces and collections of sacred music (of which perhaps Songs of Faith, Hope and Love, 1883, is best known), Albert Junos Holden was born in Boston on August 17, 1841. He studied in New York City, and served there as organist of the Church of the Divine Paternity (Universalist) and of the Church of the Puritans (Presbyterian). His sacred solo "In Heavenly Love Abiding" was recorded by the "Metropolitan Quartet" on an Edison Blue Amberol cylinder, No. 3813, in 1919. He died in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, on July 16, 1916.
