In his most recent role at the company, Cason oversaw all print music publishing operations for Word Music, including song and songwriter development for Word’s print music division. In his twenty-eight year career at the company he has been directly involved in the songwriting careers of Michael W. Smith, Nicole C. Mullen, Wayne Watson, Dennis Jernigan, and David Meece. Among his arranging and production credits, Cason’s youth choir musicals SURRENDER, DECK THE MALL, and ROOM 77 have been nominated for Dove Awards. He has written songs that have been recorded by Christian artists Bryan Duncan, Joni Eareckson-Tada, and Teri DeSario. Cason has authored curriculum for the Academy of Gospel Music Arts dealing with the songwriter / publisher relationship, and has led numerous seminars for aspiring songwriters and publishers. Cason is the Editor for Keyboard Worship and Praise, a magazine produced by Lorenz containing the best of Christian music for today's church. Cason earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Baylor University in 1976 and completed studies toward a Master’s Degree in Music History and Literature at the same university. (Stockholm, Sweden, September 8, 1842--July 3, 1907, Algeria). Swedish Covenant and Baptist. Uppsala University, Ph.D. 1866. Taught at Bethel Seminary. Compiled a Bible concordance 1868. In 1878 went to Beirut as a missionary under the Evangelical Alliance. Missionary to Algeria under the Swedish Covenant 1887-1907. Greatest contribution was translating hymns from English to Swedish, especially the Sankey songs. These were published in ten parts between 1875 and 1886 under the title Sånger till lammets lof. E. Gustav Johnson

Died: November 13, 1974, Miami, Florida. Johnson’s family emigrated to America when he was 10 years old, settling in Hartford, Connecticut. He learned the craft of a printer, but at age 30 took up studies at North Park, Chicago, Illinois, where he earned degrees at the academy, college, and seminary. He went on to graduate from the University of Chicago and Duke University. He started teaching English and Swedish at North Park in 1931, staying there three decades. He also found time to edit the Swedish Pioneer Historical Quarterly. His works include: The Swedish Element in America, 1933 (co-editor) Translation of C. J. Gustav Johnson (1925) The first literal English translation of "O store Gud" was by E. Gustav Johnson (1893–1974), then a professor of North Park College, Illinois. His translation of verses 1, 2, and 7-9 was published in the United States in the Covenant Hymnal as "O Mighty God" in 1925. The first three Covenant hymnals in English used Johnson's translation, with The Covenant Hymnal(1973) including all nine verses of Boberg’s original poem. There was a desire to replace Johnson's version with the more popular version of British missionary Stuart K. Hine's “How Great Thou Art”. Wiberg explains: Given the popularity of Stuart Hine’s translation of "How Great Thou Art" in the late 60s and early 70s, the Hymnal Commission struggled with whether to go with the more popular version or retain E. Gust’s translation. b. 1934 Scripture: Isaiah 59:9 Author of "We Walk Today in Darkness" in Come Away with Me Mary Nelson Keithahn, a retired United Church of Christ ordained pastor and church educator, has been a curriculum writer-editor, journalist, and lyricist for musical dramas and anthems. She still works out of her home in Rapid City, South Dakota, as a free-lance writer. In 2016 she published Elfie: Adventures on the Midwest Frontier, a chapter book for children, and Embracing the Light: Reflectioins on God’s Holy Word, a collection of meditations for individual or small group use. Augsburg Fortress also published Sing the Stories of God’s NEW People, the third in a trilogy of Bible story-based collections of songs for young children, written with her longtime colleague, John D. Horman. The two have written over a hundred hymns together, some of which are included in these hymnals and supplements: Community of Christ Sings, God’s Mission, God’s Song, Hymns of Heritage and Hope, Lift Up Your Hearts, Sing Justice! Do Justice, Sing the Faith, Singing Our Savior’s Story, Singing the New Testament, The Faith We Sing, Upper Room Worshipbook, Voices Found, Voices United, and Worship and Song. They have also published four collections of their hymns: Come Away with Me and Time Now to Gather (Abingdon, 1998), The Song Lingers On (Zimbel, 2003), and Faith That Lets Us Sing (Wayne Leupold Editions, 2017). Mary is a Life Member and former board member of Choristers Guild and a Life Member of the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada. She is also a member of ASCAP. In 2006 she received a Distinguished Achievement Award from her alma mater, Carleton College in Northfield, MN, in recognition of her work in composing text for religious music. Mary was married to the Rev. Richard K. Keithahn, a U.C.C. pastor, and widowed in 1986. She has three children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. --mnk
