1811 - 1890 Person Name: Thomas Helmore, 1811-1890 Scripture: Ezekiel 34:23 Adapter of "O QUANTA QUALIA (REGNATOR ORBIS)" in Common Praise A graduate of Magdalen College, Oxford, England, Thomas Helmore (b. Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England, 1811; d. Westminster, London, England, 1890) was ordained a priest in the Church of England, but his main contribution to the church was in music. He was precentor at St. Mark's College, Chelsea (1842-1877), and master of the choristers in the Chapel Royal for many years. He promoted unaccompanied choral services and played an important part in the revival of plainchant in the Anglican Church. Helmore was involved in various publications of hymns, chants, and carols, including A Manual of Plainsong (1850) and The Hymnal Noted (with John Mason Neale). Bert Polman

Gloria Gaither

b. 1942 Scripture: Ezekiel 34:11-16 Author of "Gentle Shepherd" in Voices Together Gloria Gaither (born March 4, 1942) is a Christian songwriter, author, speaker, editor, and academic. She is the wife of Bill Gaither and also sang in the Bill Gaither Trio, one of the most influential groups in recent Christian music. She was born Gloria Lee Sickal in 1942 in Michigan, a daughter of pastor Lee Sickal and Dorothy Sickal. She spent most of her childhood and high school career in the Battle Creek area of Michigan, working a brief time for the Kellogg Company. When Sickal graduated from high school, she attended Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. There, she triple majored in English, French, and Sociology. Upon her graduation, she took a job at Alexandria Monroe High School as a French teacher. There, she met Bill Gaither, who was teaching English at the time. She married Gaither in 1962, and they began writing songs recreationally. By the end of the 1960s, Gloria, Bill, and his brother Danny Gaither were touring steadily, as the Bill Gaither Trio. After touring with the Bill Gaither Trio, Gaither drew her focus to the Gaither Homecoming series. She has been an active presence in every video production. Gaither is currently the scriptwriter and narrator for the Homecoming series. In 1991, she attended Ball State University and received a Master of Arts in Literature. She taught as an adjunct professor at Anderson University for periods in the late 80s and late 90s. In 1996, she spearheaded the creation of Gaither Family Reources in Alexandria, Indiana, and currently serves as co-owner and managing director. In 2002, Gaither launched Homecoming:

1877 - 1962 Person Name: Katherine E. Roberts (1877-1962) Scripture: Ezekiel 34:11-31 Author, st. 1 of "All Poor Folk and Humble" in Common Praise (1998) Katherine Emily (Clayton) Roberts was born in 1877 in Leicester, England. Her father, Rev. Lewis Clayton, later became Suffragan Bishop of Leicester and Assistant Bishop of Peterborough. Her mother, Katherine (Hare) Clayton was active in the woman's suffrage movement in England. Katherine Emily Clayton married Rev. Robert Edwin Roberts (1878 - 1940) on January 17, 1901 at Peterborough Cathedral. He was born in Wales (Llangernyw), served as a Master at the Choir School of Westminster Abbey, saw active duty in World War I as a chaplain, worked in a munitions factory, and became a Canon of the Church of England and Dean of Leicester Cathedral. He was reportedly a gifted baritone singer who often gave lecturers on Welsh, Irish and Scottish music. He compiled hymnals and composed the tune, PHILIPPINE, presumably named for his daughter, born in 1919. Katherine and her husband wrote a history, "Peterborough," published in 1920 in the series "The Story of the English Towns." Katherine E. Roberts translated and freely paraphrased Welsh carols for The Oxford Book of Carols. Translations include "Dark the Night Lay" (No. 9) and "All Poor Men and Humble" (34). Paraphrases include "Awake Were They Only Those Shepherds So Lonely" (59) and "Now The Joyful Bells A-Ringing" (50), better known in its secular version as Deck The Halls. C. W. Naylor

1874 - 1950 Person Name: C. W. N. Scripture: Ezekiel 34:12 Author of "Thy Children Are Gathering Home" in Timeless Truths Naylor, Charles Wesley. (1874--1950). C. W. Naylor was born in southern Ohio and reared in Ohio and West Virginia by grandparents. At the age of nineteen he left the Methodist church for the Church of God. He worked for a while at the Gospel Trumpet Company in Grand Junction, Michigan and on some evangelistic tours. He was ordained in 1899 in Springfield, Ohio. He was first injured in 1908 in Florida while moving timbers from under a meeting tent. He suffered a dislocated kidney and other internal injuries. A year later he was in a bus accident that left him an invalid for the rest of his life.
