Hosanna, Loud Hosanna

Author: Jeannette Threlfall Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 159 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 118:19-29 Lyrics: 1 Hosanna, loud hosanna, the little children sang. Through pillared court and temple the lovely anthem rang. To Jesus, who had blessed them, close folded to his breast, the children sang their praises, the simplest and the best. 2 From Olivet they followed ’mid an exultant crowd, the victor palm branch waving, and chanting clear and loud. The Lord of earth and heaven rode on in lowly state, nor scorned that little children should on his bidding wait. 3 “Hosanna in the highest!” That ancient song we sing, for Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heav’n, our King. Oh, may we ever praise him with heart and life and voice, and in his blissful presence eternally rejoice! Topics: Children / Childhood; Palm Sunday; Reign of Christ Used With Tune: ELLACOMBE Text Sources: Sunshine and Shadow, 1873, alt.

Oh, how blessed is this place, Filled with solace, light, and grace! 2 Gracious God, I come before Thee; Come Thou also unto me. Where we find Thee and adore Thee, There a heav'n on earth must be. To my heart, O enter Thou; Let it be Thy temple now! 3 Here Thy praise is gladly chanted; Here Thy seed is duly sown. Let my soul, where it is planted, Bring forth precious sheaves alone, So that all I hear may be Fruitful unto life in me. 4 Thou my faith increase and quicken; Let me keep Thy gift divine, Howsoe'er temptations thicken; May Thy Word still o'er me shine As my guiding star through life, As my comfort in all strife. 5 Speak, O God, and I will hear Thee; Let Thy will be done indeed. May I undisturbed draw near Thee While Thou dost Thy people feed. Here of life the fountain flows; Here is balm for all our woes. Thy ceaseless, unexhausted love

Author: Charles Wesley, 1707-1788 Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 116 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 118 Lyrics: 1 Thy ceaseless, unexhausted love, unmerited and free, delights our evil to remove, and help our misery. 2 Thou waitest to be gracious still; thou dost with sinners bear, that, saved, we may thy goodness feel, and all thy grace declare. 3 Thy goodness and thy truth to me, to ev'ry soul abound, a vast, unfathomable sea, where all our thoughts are drowned. 4 Its streams the whole creation reach, so plenteous is the store, enough for all, enough for each, enough for evermore. 5 Faithful, O Lord, thy mercies are, a rock that cannot move; a thousand promises declare thy constancy of love. 6 Throughout the universe it reigns, unalterably sure; and while the truth of God remains the goodness must endure.
