When Our Confidence Is Shaken

Author: Fred Pratt Green, 1903-2000 Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.7.7 Appears in 9 hymnals Lyrics: 1 When our confidence is shaken in beliefs we thought secure, when the spirit in its sickness seeks but cannot find a cure, God is active in the tensions of a faith not yet mature, of a faith not yet mature. 2 Solar systems, void of meaning, freeze the spirit into stone; always our researches lead us to the ultimate unknown. Faith must die, or come full circle to its source in God alone, to its source in God alone. 3 In the discipline of praying, when it's hardest to believe; in the drudgery of caring, when it's not enough to grieve; faith, maturing, learns acceptance of the insights we receive, of the insights we receive. 4 God is love, and thus redeems us in the Christ we crucify; this is God's eternal answer to the world's eternal why. May we in this faith maturing be content to live and die, be content to live and die! Scripture: 1 John 4:16 Used With Tune: CWM RHONDDA

What Child Is This

Author: William C. Dix, 1837-1898 Meter: 8.7.8.7 with refrain Appears in 206 hymnals First Line: What child is this, who, laid to rest Lyrics: 1 What child is this, who, laid to rest, on Mary's lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, while shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing; haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary! 2 Why lies he in such mean estate where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear: for sinners here the silent Word is pleading. Nails, spear shall pierce him through, the cross be borne for me, for you; hail, hail the Word made flesh, the babe, the son of Mary! 3 So bring him incense, gold, and myrrh, come peasant, king, to own him; the King of kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone him. Raise, raise the song on high, the Virgin sings her lullaby; joy, joy for Christ is born, the babe, the son of Mary! Scripture: Luke 2:35 Used With Tune: GREENSLEEVES

The Day of Resurrection!

Author: John of Damascus, 8th c.; John M. Neale, 1818-1866 Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 518 hymnals Lyrics: 1 The day of resurrection! Earth, tell it out abroad; the Passover of gladness, the Passover of God. From death to life eternal, from sin's dominion free, our Christ has brought us over with hymns of victory. 2 Our hearts be pure from evil, that we may see aright the Lord in rays eternal of resurrection light; and, listening to his accents, may hear, so calm and plain, his own "all hail" and, hearing, may raise the victor strain. 3 Now let the heavens be joyful! Let earth its song begin! The world resound in triumph, and all that is therein; let all things seen and unseen their notes of gladness blend; for Christ the Lord has risen, our Joy that has no end.
