Days in the Sanctuary

Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 4 hymnals First Line: How lovely, Lord of Hosts, to me Lyrics: 1 How lovely, Lord of hosts, to me The tabernacles of Thy grace; O how I long, yea, faint to see Thy hallowed courts, Thy dwelling-place; For Thee my heart and spirit sign, For Thee, O living God, I cry. 2 The sparrow has her place of rest; The swallow thro' Thy kindly care, Has found where she may build her nest And brood her young in safety there; Thy altars as my rest I sing, O Lord of Hosts, my God, my King. 3 Blest they who in Thy house abide, They still to Thee shall render praise; Blest they who in Thy strength confide, And in whose hearts are Zion's ways; Tho' passing thro' the vale of tears, Like springs of joy Thy grace appears. 4 Advancing still from strength to strength, They onward go where saints have trod, Till ev'ry one appears at length In Zion's courts before his God; Jehovah God of Hosts, give ear, Our father's God, in mercy hear. 5 Upon us look, O God, our shield, The face of Thy anointed see; A thousand other days can yield No gladness like one day with Thee; Tho' only at Thy door I wait, No tents of sin give joy so great. 6 Jehovah, God our Shield and Sun, Will grace and glory surely give; No good will He withhold from one Who in His sight shall rightly live; O Lord of Hosts, most blest is he Who puts his steadfast trust in Thee. The Lord! How Tender Is His Love

Author: Erasmus Darwin Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 27 hymnals Lyrics: 1 The Lord! how tender is His love, His justice how august; Hence all her fears my soul derives, There anchors all her trust. He showers the manna from above, To feed the barren waste; Or points with death the fiery hail, And famine waits the blast. 2 Crowns, realms, and worlds, His wrath incensed, Are dust beneath His tread: He blights the fair, unplumes the proud, And shakes the learnèd head. He bids distress forget to groan, The sick from anguish cease, In dungeons spreads His healing wing, And softly whispers peace. 3 His vengeance rides the rushing wind, Or tips the bolt with flame; His goodness breathes in every breeze, And warms in every beam. Lord! grant that still with grateful heart My years resigned may run; ’Tis Thine to give, or to resume, And may Thy will be done! O LORD, how lovely is the Place

Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 O LORD, how lovely is the Place Where thou, vouchsaf'st to shew thy Face, In Glory, ever bright array'd; My Soul faints for thy blest Abode, My Heart cries out to see her GOD With Lustre unobscur'd display'd. The Birds around thy Temple throng; And there they build and hatch their Young. 2 O LORD of Hosts! how blest are they, Who in thine House thy Praise display, Whose Hopes in thee are firmly plac'd; Who with a pious Zeal do tread The Ways that to thy Temple lead, For they shall never be disgrac's. In parched Vales they know no Want, For thou refreshing Rain shall grant. 3 Thus they proceed, free from all Fear, From Strength to Strength, 'till all appear On Sion's Mount, for ever bless'd. LORD let my humble Pray'r be heard, My Soul's sincere Desires regard; To thee, O Jacob's GOD! address'd; To us thy sure Protection bring, And look on thine anointed King. 4 For in thy Courts one Day to dwell, In solid Pleasure, doth excell A Thousand Days, wherever spent. A Habitation of my GOD, I choose to be my fix'd Abode; And, dwelling there, would be content, Rather to keep his Temple Gate, Than live with wicked Men in State. 5 For GOD, our great Defence and Light, To guide us in the Way that's right, His Grace and Glory still bestows; And to all those who justly live, The LORD shall ev'ry Blessing give; His plenteous Mercy ever flows. O GOD, how highly blest ishe, Whose Trust is still repos'd in thee! Topics: Description of Happiness of Man; Prayers When deprived ot the Opportunitys of attending in God's House; Thanksgivings For diverse Mercies shown to the Chruch Scripture: Psalm 84 Used With Tune: [O Lord, how lovely is the Place]
