1944 - 1992 Composer of "XOCHIPILLI (GLORIA)" in El Himnario Skinner Chavez-Melo, an organist, conductor and composer who was music director at the St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Manhattan, died on Saturday at New York Downtown Hospital. He was 47 years old and lived in Manhattan. He died of spinal cancer, said his brother, Juan Francisco. Mr. Chavez-Melo was born in Mexico City, but completed his musical studies in the United States, receiving degrees at Eastern Nazarene College and the Union Theological Seminary, and pursuing further studies at the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School. He toured internationally as an organist and conducted orchestras in Mexico, Brazil and the United States. As a composer, he wrote works for organ, choir and orchestra, and contributed hymn settings to several published hymnals, including those of the United Church of Christ and Yale University. He also lectured and presented workshops on Hispanic church music. Besides directing music at St. Rose, Mr. Chavez-Melo conducted the annual Singing Christmas Tree concerts at the South Street Seaport. http://www.nytimes.com/1992/01/28

Miguel Manzano

b. 1934 Composer of "[Gloria a Dios en el cielo]" in Libro de Liturgia y Cántico Miguel Manzano is a Spanish composer and singer. He was born in Aillamor de Cardozo near the border with Portugal. Miguel began his religious musical career at the age of 8 as cantor at the Cathedral of Zamora, Spain. He studied solfeg, piano, organ and harmonium with the renowned teacher, Gaspar Arabaolaza. Later on, he began studies at the Higher School of Sacred Music in Madrid, where he studied Rhythm and Gregorian Modality, as well as Harmony and Religious Polyphony. He furthered his studies of language and musical rhythm at the Catholic Institute of Paris. Miguel's internationally recognized music has been chosen to complete the repertoire of the National Liturgical Hymnal of the Espicopal Committee of Spanish Liturgy. At present he is Professor of Ethnic Music at the Higher Conservatory of Music in Salamanca. --www.ocp.org/artists/1987

1918 - 2014 Person Name: Carroll T. Andrews Composer of "[Glory to God in the highest]" in Oramos Cantando = We Pray In Song Andrews, Carroll Thomas. (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, October 27, 1918- ). After his early education in Milwaukee, he served in the Army and Air Force, 1940-1945. He studied at St. Albertus College, Racine, Wisconsin (B.M. 1946) and the University of Montreal (Licentiate Music, 1947). From 1946 to 1965 he was active as a summer school teacher in various colleges and was organist, music director, and classroom teacher for Sacred Heart and Blessed Sacrament parishes, Toledo, Ohio. In 1965, he moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, to become director of music for the diocese of St. Augustine (now the diocese of St. Petersburg) with duties involving the training of church musicians and directing changes to vernacular texts and liturgy following Vatican II. In 1980, he was the music director and secretary of the Diocesant Liturgy Commission and director of music for St. John Vianney Parish, St. Petersburg Beach, Florida. He composed and edited much music for Roman Catholic use, including hymn tunes in The New Saint Basil Hymnal (Cincinnati, 1958). --Harry Eskew, DNAH Archives
