Nicene Affirmation of Faith

Appears in 51 hymnals Topics: The Church at Worship Affirmation of Faith; God's Church The Church at Worship: Affirmation of Faith First Line: We believe in one God Lyrics: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Refrain: On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand. 2 When darkness seems to hide His face, I rest on His unchanging grace; in every high and stormy gale, my anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain] 3 His oath, His covenant, His blood support me in the whelming flood; when all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain] 4 When He shall come with trumpet sound, oh, may I then in Him be found, dressed in Hs righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain] Used With Tune: SOLID ROCK

All people that on earth do dwell

Author: William Kethe (d. 1594) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 746 hymnals Topics: Canticles and Affirmations of Faith Lyrics: 1 All people that on earth do dwell, sing to the Lord with cheerful voice; him serve with fear, his praise forth tell, come ye before him, and rejoice. 2 The Lord, ye know, is God indeed; without our aid he did us make; we are his folk, he doth us feed, and for his sheep he doth us take. 3 O enter then his gates with praise, approach with joy his courts unto; praise, laud, and bless his name always, for it is seemly so to do. 4 For why? The Lord our God is good; his mercy is for ever sure; his truth at all times firmly stood, and shall from age to age endure. 5 To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, the God whom heaven and earth adore, from men and from the angel-host be praise and glory evermore. Scripture: Psalm 100 Used With Tune: OLD HUNDREDTH Text Sources: Psalm100 in Anglo-Genevan Psalter, 1560

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

Author: Martin Luther; Frederick H. Hedge Meter: 8.7.8.7.6.6.6.6.7 Appears in 691 hymnals Topics: Affirmation of Faith Lyrics: 1 A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal. 2 Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing, were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God's own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He; Lord Sabbaoth, His name, from age to age the same, and He must win the battle. 3 And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God has willed His truth to triumph through us. The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him; his rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure; one little word shall fell him. 4 That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill: God's truth abideth still, His kingdom is forever. Scripture: Psalm 46 Used With Tune: EIN' FESTE BURG
