Awake, My Heart, And Marvel

Author: H. Brueckner; Paul Gerhardt Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 2 hymnals Hymnal Title: American Lutheran Hymnal Lyrics: 1 Awake, my heart, and marvel At nature's beauty fair; The woodlands and the meadows Are clad with blossoms rare; The earth is wrapt in sunlight, The birds with voices clear Extol their Maker's glory And fill the world with cheer. 2 Like waters undulating Our fields of grain are seen, And zephyrs bear sweet odors Like breaths from forests green. We hear the brances whisper Up in the linden tree, And now the woodbine arbor Love's home alone can be. 3 The early summer roses In rapture we behold, And ev'ry morn new flowers Their fragrant buds unfold. From heaven far above us Shines down the deepest blue, And from the earth below us Spring plants of verdant hue. 4 O heart of mine, throw open Thy windows wide and far, Lest from its deep recesses God's sun of love thou bar. He who suspends the rainbow Across the clouded sky Still with His hands sustains thee When storms are rising high. Topics: Praise Used With Tune: COMMIT THY WAY

The God Of The Ages Your Refuge

Author: Paul E. Kretzmann Meter: 9.8.9.8 D Appears in 1 hymnal Hymnal Title: American Lutheran Hymnal Lyrics: 1 The God of the ages your refuge, No matter how mighty the foe; Tho' dangers and evils surround you And threaten wherever you go; His truth is your shield and your weapon, A shadow upon your right hand, A rock of eternal reliance, Tho' desert and dreary the land. 2 No matter how deeply you've fallen, Beneath are His powerful arms, And sin cannot hold nor enslave you, No matter how potent its charms; His grace and His mercy uphold you On wings of His power and might, Thro' storms and thro' darkness they bear you To mansions of heavenly light. 3 Then trust in your heavenly Father, In Jesus, your Savior and Lord, Whose promise of marvelous blessings Is found in His merciful Word, Until, by the grace of the Spirit, We come to the end of life's way And feast on the joys of salvation, The bliss of the heavenly day. There Is A Blessed Power

Author: J. C. Aaberg Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 3 hymnals Hymnal Title: American Lutheran Hymnal Lyrics: 1 There is a blessed power That shields us from all woe, And like a mighty tower Protects us from the foe; It is the faith abiding In Jesus Christ, our Lord; It is the faith confiding In God's own blessed Word. 2 By faith was Moses guided To reach the promised land And Israel provided With manna from God's hand; In want and tribulation, Exposed to fire and sword, God's children found salvation By faith in Christ, the Lord. 3 When shades of night enclose us And griefs our hearts dismay, When foes with might oppose us And friends our trust betray, In fear and tribulation We take the shield of faith, And with this consolation We fight the pow'rs of death. 4 Arise, then, all believers, Lift high this mighty shield; The strongest arrow shivers Against its gleaming field; And ye shall walk protected From Satan's wiles and might Until in grace perfected Ye dwell with God in light.
