Brethren, We Have Met to Worship

Author: George Atkins Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 248 hymnals Scripture: Luke 12:35-37 Lyrics: 1 Brethren, we have met to worship and adore the Lord our God. Will you pray with all your power while we try to preach the word? All is vain unless the Spirit of the holy One comes down. Brethren, pray, and holy manna will be showered all around. 2 Sisters, will you come and help us? Moses’ sister aided him. Will you help the trembling mourners who are struggling hard with sin? Tell them all about the Savior. Tell them that he will be found. Sisters, pray, and holy manna will be showered all around. 3 Is there here a trembling jailer, seeking grace and filled with fears? Is there here a weeping Mary pouring forth a flood of tears? Brethren, join your cries to help them; sisters, let your prayers abound! Pray, O pray, that holy manna will be scattered all around. 4 Let us love our God supremely; let us love each other, too. Let us love and pray for sinners till our God makes all things new. Christ will call us home to heaven; at his table we’ll sit down. Christ will gird himself and serve us with sweet manna all around. Bigger Barns

Author: Carolyn Winfrey Gillette Meter: 7.7.7.7 D Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Luke 12:13-21 First Line: "Bigger barns are what I need" Lyrics: “Bigger barns are what I need,” so a rich man said one day. “From my worries I’ll be free when my wealth is stored away.” “Fool!” God said, “Today you’ll die!” Will that wealth mean anything? All life’s blessings really lie in the gifts that wealth can’t bring. “Bigger barns are what we need for our money, gadgets, more!” Lord, we’re tempted to believe having wealth, we’ll be secure! Somewhere children cry for food or to have a doctor’s care. Can our bigger barns be good when poor neighbors know despair? God of love, we long to know what will make us truly blest. Jesus taught us long ago wealth won’t give us peace or rest. You are our security! Safe in you, we serve, O Lord. May we find we’re rich indeed when we’re sharing with the poor. Baptism

Author: W. Gadsby Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Luke 12:50 First Line: Precious Jesus! here we are Lyrics: 1 Precious Jesus! here we are, Come to witness and declare We are thine, redeemed with blood, Called and proved the sons of God. 2 Jesus, ere he gave his blood, Was immersed in Jordan’s flood, There, and in that way, to show What he had to undergo. 3 In the watery grave we see, Looking through it, Lord, to thee, Jesus, overwhelmed in blood, Sunk in wrath’s tremendous flood. 4 And shall we for whom he died, Rose, and lives to intercede, Be too proud to be despised, And with him to be baptized? 5 No, dear Saviour, we will go In the watery grave, to show We are buried with our King, And we rise his praise to sing. 6 Precious Spirit, make us see Love immense, beyond degree; Now, and when beneath the flood, Fill us with the love of God.
