283. All Glory Be to God on High

1 All glory be to God on high,
Who has our race befriended!
To us no harm shall now come nigh,
The strife at last is ended;
God his good will displays to men,
And peace shall reign on earth again;
O thank him for his goodness.

2 We praise, we worship you, we trust,
And give you thanks forever,
O Father, that your rule is just,
And wise, and changes never;
Your boundless power o'er all things reigns,
You do whate'er your will ordains;
'Tis well you are our ruler!

3 O Jesus Christ, our God and Lord,
Begotten of the Father,
O Savior, who our peace restored,
And who lost sheep did gather,
O Lamb of God, enthroned on high,
Behold our need and hear our cry;
Have mercy on us, Jesus!

4 O Holy Spirit, precious gift,
O Comforter unfailing,
Do you our troubled souls uplift,
Against the foe prevailing,
Avert our woes and calm our dread;
For us the Savior's blood was shed;
Do you in faith sustain us!

Amen.
