Albert C. Fisher

1886 - 1946 Hymnal Number: d155 Author of "Love is the theme, love is supreme" in Gospel Melodies Born: March 10, 1886, New Berne, North Carolina. Died: February 6, 1946, Dallas, Texas. Buried: Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, Texas. Fisher attended Fort Worth University and Polytechnic College, Fort Worth, Texas; Vanderbilt University; Southern Methodist University; and earned his Doctor of Divinity degree at Asbury College, Kentucky. He moved to Fort Worth in 1908, and for a decade served as a general evangelist for the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. In World War I, he was a military chaplain. After the war, he worked in the East Oklahoma Conference and (beginning in 1944), the North Texas Conference. Eliza Holmes Reed

1794 - 1867 Person Name: Eliza Reed Hymnal Number: d144 Author of "[O] Why not tonight" in Gospel Melodies Reed, Eliza, née Holmes, was born in London, March 4, 1794; married to the Rev. Andrew Reed in 1816; and died July 4, 1867. Mrs. Reed entered fully and earnestly into her husband's extensive charitable works. Her publications include Original Tales for Children; and The Mother's Manual for the Training of her Children, 1865. Her hymns, 20 in all, were contributed to her husband's collection, and were republished with his in the Wycliffe Chapel Supplement, 1872. They are only of average merit, and have not attained to a marked position. They include:— 1. Gracious Lord, as Thou hast bidden. Holy Baptism. 2. I would be Thine, 0 take my heart . 1850 - 1940 Person Name: R. H. McDaniel Hymnal Number: d237 Author of "Since Jesus came into my heart" in Gospel Melodies Rufus H. McDaniel was ordained in the Christian church in 1873. He found much joy in church music. He began writing hymns in the 1880's. He wrote, "I feel in my soul that God has something for me to do in brightening the experience of struggling souls. My chief desire is to be a blessing, if possible, to my fellow-men through these hymns and thereby glorify God in the name of his dear son 'whose I am and whom I serve.'" 1885 - 1985 Person Name: Vivan McCown Hymnal Number: d220 Author of "He whispers his love to me" in Gospel Melodies Viana Butler McCown was Director of Nursing in the School of Nursing at the University of SC in 1955 and 1956. She had a wonderful Nursing Career and taught a very detailed and meaningful History of Nursing Class. She retired 1957. She had a profound love of Nursing and also loved each of her students and had very high ideals for them.
