Give Thanks to God the Lord

Author: Susan H. Peterson, 1950-2004 Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1. Give thanks to God the Lord; upon His name now call. Make known among the people on earth what He has done for all. Sing praise to Him, now sing; His wondrous acts proclaim. Rejoice, all you who seek the Lord; come glory in His name. 2. Look to the Lord’s great strength; remember all His deeds. His judgments are in all of the earth; He is the Lord indeed. His covenant e’er will stand; His oath He’ll ne’er forget. A thousand generations pass; God’s word continues yet. 3. Sing to the Lord, all earth; His saving power proclaim. Declare His glory to every race; His marvelous deeds now name. For great is God the Lord, most worthy of all praise. He made the heavens and the earth; fear Him and give Him praise. 4. Splendor and majesty before the Lord are found. Both strength and joy with Him do dwell; bring offerings, come bow down. Ascribe unto the Lord the glory due His name; The splendor of His holiness now worship and proclaim. 5. Let now the heav’ns rejoice; let earth give glad refrain. The world is ’stablished, ne’er to be moved; tell everyone God reigns! Now let the sea resound, be jubilant all fields; The forest trees will sing for joy; earth’s judge is now revealed. 6. Give thanks to God the Lord; His goodness now declare. He saves, delivers from every foe; His love endures fore’er. Give thanks unto His name and glory in His praise; Praise to the God of Israel for everlasting days. Used With Tune: DIADEMATA

Bless'd Are the Pure in Heart

Author: John Keble Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 400 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Bless'd are the pure in heart, for they shall see our God; the secret of the Lord is theirs; their soul is Christ's abode. Might mortal thought presume to guess an angel's lay, such are the notes that echo through the courts of heav'n today. 2 Such the triumphal hymns on Zion's Prince that wait, in high procession passing on towards his temple gate. Give ear, ye kings; bow down, ye rulers of the earth– this, this is he, your priest by grace, your God and King by birth. 3 No pomp of earthly guards attends with sword and spear, and all defying, dauntless, look their monarch's way to clear: yet are there more with him than all that are with you– the armies of the highest heav'n, all righteous, good, and true. 4 But who is he, though bowed by years, erect in heart, whose prayers are struggling with his tears? "Lord, let me now depart; now hath thy servant seen thy saving health, O Lord: 'tis time that I depart in peace, according to thy word." 5 Yet swells the pomp: one more comes forth to bless her God: full four-score years, meek widow, she her heav'nward way hath trod: she who to earthly joys so long had giv'n farewell, now sees, unlooked for, heav'n on earth, Christ in his Israel. 6 Wide open from that hour the temple gates are set, and still the saints rejoicing there the holy Child have met. Still to the lowly soul he doth himself impart, and for his cradle and his throne chooseth the pure in heart. Commit Thou All Thy Griefs

Author: Paul Gerhardt; John Wesley Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 245 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Commit thou all thy griefs and ways into his hands, to his sure truth and tender care who earth and heav'n commands, who points the clouds their course, whom winds and seas obey; he shall direct thy wand'ring feet, he shall prepare thy way. 2 Thou on the Lord rely, so safe shalt thou go on; fix on his work thy steadfast eye, so shall thy work be done. No profit canst thou gain from self-consuming care; to him comment thy cause; his ear attends the softest prayer. Scripture: Mark 4:41 Used With Tune: ICH HALTE Text Sources: Befiehl du deine Wegen

Come Ye That Seek the Lord

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1. Come ye that seek the Lord, Him that was crucified, Come listen to the Gospel word, And feel it now applied; To every soul of man The joyful news we show, Jesus for every sinner slain, Is risen again for you. 2. The Lord is risen indeed, And did to us appear, He hath been seen, our living head, By many a Peter here: We, who so oft denied Our master and our God, Have thrust our hand into His side, And felt the streaming blood. 3. Raised from the dead we are The members with their Lord, And boldly in His name declare The soul reviving word; Salvation we proclaim Which every soul may find, Pardon and peace in Jesus’ name, And life for all mankind. 4. O might they all receive The bleeding Prince of Peace! Sinners, the glad report believe, Of Jesus’ witnesses; He lives, who spilt His blood; Believe our record true, The arm, the power, the Son of God Shall be revealed in you. When Lawless People Thrive

Author: Christopher Idle Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 When lawless people thrive and wrong suppresses right, remember they will fade away and wither overnight. Commit your life to God, and trust the LORD to make the justice of your righteous cause shine clear for his name's sake. 2 Be still before the LORD; in patience learn to wait and never fret if crime succeeds and some grow rich and great. For jealous discontent tends only to destroy; the meek who look to God their LORD a kingdom shall enjoy. 3 The godless borrow much and cannot then pay back; the righteous give, and give again, are blessed, and have no lack. The saints whose lives are true can turn away from wrong; God's Word is hidden in their heart, God's wisdom guides their tongue. 4 I've seen a boasting thief grow like a weed apace; but when I passed that way again I looked, but found no trace. My steps are from the LORD who helps my feet to stand. I stumble but I do not fall; my God shall hold my hand. 5 Salvation is from God in times of blatant wrong, and all who seek his shelter find a refuge safe and strong. So fully trust the LORD; shun evil, follow right: God gives you all your heart's desire when he is your delight. My Heart Does Overflow

Meter: 6.6.8.6 D Appears in 12 hymnals Lyrics: 1 My heart does overflow, a goodly theme is mine; my eager tongue with joyful song does praise the King divine. Supremely fair you are, your lips with grace o'erflow; his richest blessings evermore does God on you bestow. 2 Now gird thee with your sword, O strong and mighty One, in splendid majesty arrayed, more glorious than the sun. Triumphantly ride forth for meekness, truth, and right; your arm shall gain the victory in wondrous deeds of might. 3 Your strength shall overcome all those that hate the King, and under your dominion strong the nations you shall bring. Your royal throne, O God, forevermore shall stand; eternal truth and justice wield the scepter in your hand. 4 Since you were sinless found, the Lord, by you confessed, anointed you with perfect joy— you are supremely blessed. Your garments breathe of myrrh and spices sweet and rare; glad strains of heav'nly music ring throughout your palace fair. 5 Amid your glorious train kings' daughters waiting stand, and fairest gems bedeck your bride, the queen at your right hand. O royal bride, give heed, and to my words attend; for Christ, the King, forsake the world and ev'ry former friend.
