Calvin Seerveld

b. 1930 Scripture: Leviticus 19:15-18 Versifier of "Be Just in Judgment, Fair to All" in Psalter Hymnal (Gray) Calvin Seerveld (b. 1930) was professor of aesthetics at the Institute for Christian Studies in Toronto from 1972 until he retired in 1995. Educated at Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan; the University of Michigan; and the Free University of Amsterdam (Ph.D.), he also studied at Basel University in Switzerland, the University of Rome, and the University of Heidelberg. Seerveld began his career by teaching at Bellhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi (1958-1959), and at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois (1959-1972). A fine Christian scholar, fluent in various biblical and modern languages, he is published widely in aesthetics, biblical studies, and philosophy. His books include Take Hold of God and Pull (1966), The Greatest Song: In Critique of Solomon (1967), For God's Sake, Run with Joy (1972), Rainbows for the Fallen World: Aesthetic Life and Artistic Task (1980), and On Being Human (1988). He credits the Dutch musician Ina Lohr for influencing his compositions of hymn tunes. Iain D. Cunningham

I am a Church of Scotland Minister, ordained in 1979, currently minister of Kirkton Church, Carluke. I was born in Port Glasgow but moved to Lanarkshire when I was 11 years old. Having been a pupil at Hamilton Academy, from 1966 to 1972, I studied English and Drama at Glasgow University before receiving a call to ministry. I remained at Glasgow University to complete a BD degree and was ordained by Ayr Presbytery in 1979. I have served as a Parish Minister, first of all at Duntocher Trinity Church, from 1980 to 1987 and then from 1987 to the present day at Kirkton Church Carluke. Diaz Pablo Filós Robleto attended the Colegio Bautista in Managua (graduated 1940), and the Baptist Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana, and pastored churches in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Texas. He also directed the Department of Administration of Churches and Pastoral Leadership, edited The Christian Home for the Casa Bautista de Publicaciones, and translated about 200 hymns from English to Spanish. Dale Grotenhuis

1931 - 2012 Scripture: Leviticus 19:15-18 Harmonizer of "TORONTO (Seerveld)" in Psalter Hymnal (Gray) Dale Grotenhuis (b. Cedar Grove, WI, 1931; d. Jenison, Mi, August 17, 2012) was a member of the 1987 Psalter Hymnal 1987 Revision Committee, and was professor of music and director of choral music at Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa, from 1960 until he retired in 1994 to concentrate on composition. Educated at Calvin College; Michigan State University, Lansing; and Ohio State University, Columbus; he combined teaching with composition throughout his career and was a widely published composer of choral music. He also directed the Dordt choir in a large number of recordings, including many psalm arrangements found in the 1959 edition of the Psalter Hymnal. Before coming to Dordt, Grotenhuis taught music at Christian high schools in Washington and Michigan. Under his direction, the Dordt College concert choir participated in annual tours that took members throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. He loved the church and the music of the church.
