Come to Jesus

Author: Frederick W. Faber Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 41 hymnals First Line: Was there ever kindest shepherd Lyrics: 1 Was there ever kindest shepherd Half so gentle, half so sweet, As the Saviour who would have us Come and gather round His feet? It is God; His love looks mighty, But is mightier than it seems: 'Tis our Father, and His kindness Goes out far beyond our dreams. 2 There's a wideness in God's mercy, Like the wideness of the sea; There's a kindness in His justice, Which is more that liberty. There is welcome for the sinner, And more graces for the good; There is mercy with the Saviour, There is healing in His blood: 3 For the love of God is broader Than the measures of man's mind, And the heart of the Eternal Is most wonderfully kind: But we make His love too narrow By false limits of our own, And we magnify His strictness With a zeal He will not own. 4 There is plentiful redemption In the blood that has been shed; There is joy for all the members In the sorrows of the Head. If our love were but more simple, We should take Him at His word; And our lives would be all sunshine In the sweetness of our Lord. Amen. The Hymnal: Published by the authority of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A., 1895

Who, O Lord, with Thee Abiding

Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 8 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Who, O Lord, with thee abiding, in thy house shall be thy guest? Who, his feet to Zion turning, in thy holy hill shall rest? He that ever walks uprightly, does the right without a fear; when he speaks, he speaks not lightly, but with truth and love sincere. 2 He that slanders not his brother, does no evil to a friend; to reproaches of another he refuses to attend. Wicked men win not his favor, but the good who fear the Lord; from his vow he will not waver, though it bring him sad reward. 3 To the needy freely lending, no excess he asks again; and the innocent befriending, he desires not praise of men. Doing this, and evil spurning, he shall nevermore be moved; this the man with thee sojourning, this the man by thee approved. Topics: Falsehood; Falsehood; Godly Speech; Vows Scripture: Psalm 15 Used With Tune: HELEN Text Sources: Paraphrase, The Psalter, 1912, alt.

Christ Is Risen! Shout Hosanna!

Author: Brian Wren Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 23 hymnals First Line: Christ is risen! Shout Hosanna Lyrics: 1. Christ is risen! Shout Hosanna! Celebrate this day of days! Christ is risen! Hush in wonder: All creation is amazed. In the desert all-surrounding, See, a spreading tree has grown. Healing leaves of grace abounding Bring a taste of love unknown. 2. Christ is risen! Raise your spirits From the caverns of despair. Walk with gladness in the morning. See what love can do and dare. Drink the wine of resurrection, Not a servant, but a friend. Jesus is our strong companion. Joy and peace shall never end. 3. Christ is risen! Earth and heaven Nevermore shall be the same. Break the bread of new creation Where the world is still in pain. Tell its grim, demonic chorus: Christ is risen! Get you gone! God the First and Last is with us, Sing Hosanna, everyone!
