Gerald Hocken Knight was born on 27 July 1908 in Par, Cornwall, and was educated at Truro Cathedral School and Peterhouse, Cambridge. He was an articled organ pupil of Hubert Stanley Middleton at Truro Cathedral. He was appointed a Fellow of the Royal School of Church Music in 1964. She was Born in Belém, PA, Brazil in 1943. Her songs and translations appear in several hymn books and collections of sacred songs in Brazil, Latin America, USA, Europe, and Asia. She has a degree in Portuguese, French Language and Literature, and a Degree in Artistic Education. She is interested in worship and the arts, and her book: The Song of Life, explores the relationship between Hymnody and Theology. Until 2010, she was a missionary of The United Methodist Church, serving with the World Council of Churches (WCC), in Geneva, Switzerland, in the position of Worship Consultant. Frederick Alexander Mann

Not to be confused with Frederick Mann, 1846-1928. --Tina Schneider, 01 July 2014. ======================= Mr. F. A. Mann was the musical director of the children’s Home at Victoria Park. He possessed a find conception for music; he gave a “reading” and interpretation to everything he touched, even to a children’s hymn. He composed but little; probably his reserve in this respect was due to his high ideals and his reverence for the great masters. For nineteen years F. A. Mann practiced the musical profession at Lowestoft. Here he was organist successively of the Parish Church of St. Margaret, and of the church at Kirkley. His power as a choir-trainer was soon discovered by other churches, including nonconformists, and by the help of deputies he managed to train three or four choirs abreast. For fourteen years he devoted himself to training the choir of children belonging to the Children’s Home. Mr. Mann understood children; his poetic musical instinct drew forth their powers; he interested them and they needed no spur. (Near village of Old Jefferson, Rutherford County, Tennessee, August 11, 1832--April 29, 1895, Eureka Springs, Arkansas). Southern Baptist. Evangelist in Texas and other states, 1875-1895. Compiled three hymnals titled Harvest Bells (1881, 1884, 1887) for use in his meetings. His hymns were primarily revivalistic in emphasis. His finest hymn, "There is a rock in a weary land, Its shadow falls on the burning sand" was paid the compliment of being reworked and issued under the name of Edward Husband in D.B. Towner's Revival Hymns (Chicago, 1905). He and his wife Corilla Frances Sayle adopted three children. Ordained December 4, 1880. --David W.
