For All the Saints

Author: William Walsham How Meter: 10.10.10 with alleluias Appears in 573 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 7:9-17 First Line: For all the saints who from their labors rest Lyrics: 1 For all the saints who from their labors rest, who to the world by faith their Lord confessed, your name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia, alleluia! 2 You were their rock, their fortress, and their might; you, Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight, and in the darkness drear, their one true light. Alleluia, alleluia! 3 May all your soldiers, faithful, true, and bold, fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, and win with them the victor's crown of gold. Alleluia, alleluia! 4 O blest communion, fellowship divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine; yet all are one within your great design. Alleluia, alleluia! 5 And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, far off we hear the distant triumph song; and hearts are brave again, and arms are strong. Alleluia, alleluia! 6 But then there breaks a yet more glorious day: the saints triumphant rise in bright array; the King of glory passes on his way. Alleluia, alleluia! 7 From earth's wide bounds, from ocean's farthest coast, through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost: Alleluia, alleluia! Rev. 7:13-17: How bright these glorious spirits shine!

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 156 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 7:13-17 First Line: How bright these glorious spirits shine! Lyrics: How bright these glorious spirits shine! whence all their white array? How came they to the blissful seats of everlasting day? Lo! these are they from suff’rings great, who came to realms of light, And in the blood of Christ have washed those robes which shine so bright. Now, with triumphal palms, they stand before the throne on high, And serve the God they love, amidst the glories of the sky. His presence fills each heart with joy, tunes ev’ry mouth to sing: By day, by night, the sacred courts with glad hosannahs ring. 150 Hunger and thirst are felt no more, nor suns with scorching ray; God is their sun, whose cheering beams diffuse eternal day. The Lamb which dwells amidst the throne shall o’er them still preside; Feed them with nourishment divine, and all their footsteps guide. ’Mong pastures green he’ll lead his flock, where living streams appear; And God the Lord from ev’ry eye shall wipe off ev’ry tear.

Vast is the sight and majestic their singing: "God has the victory: he reigns from the throne!" 2 These have come out of the great tribulation; now they may stand in the presence of God, serving their Lord day and night in his temple, ransomed and cleansed by the Lamb's precious blood. 3 Gone is their thirst and no more shall they hunger; God is their shelter, his power at their side. Sun shall not pain them, no burning will torture; Jesus the Lamb is their shepherd and guide. 4 He will go with them to clear living water flowing from springs which his mercy supplies. Love Divine, All Loves Excelling

Author: Charles Wesley, 1707-88 Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 1,872 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 7:9-17 Lyrics: 1 Love divine, all loves excelling, Joy of heav'n, to earth come down! Fix in us Thy humble dwelling, All Thy faithful mercies crown. Jesus, Thou art all compassion, Pure, unbounded love Thou art; Visit us with Thy salvation, Enter ev'ry trembling heart. 2 Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit Into ev'ry troubled breast; Let us all in Thee inherit; Let us find Thy promised rest. Take away the love of sinning; Alpha and Omega be; End of faith, as its beginning, Set our hearts at liberty. 3 Come, Almighty, to deliver; Let us all Thy life receive; Suddenly return, and never, Nevermore Thy temples leave. Thee we would be always blessing, Serve Thee as Thy hosts above, Pray and praise Thee without ceasing, Glory in Thy perfect love. 4 Finish then Thy new creation, Pure and spotless let us be; Let us see Thy great salvation Perfectly restored in Thee, Changed from glory into glory, Till in heav'n we take our place, Till we cast our crowns before Thee, Lost in wonder, love, and praise! Used With Tune: HYFRYDOL

Be Still, My Soul

Author: Catharina Amalia Dorothea von Schlegel, 1697-1752; Jane L. Borthwick, 1813-97 Meter: 10.10.10.10.10.10 Appears in 182 hymnals Scripture: Revelation 7:13-17 First Line: Be still, my soul; the Lord is on your side Lyrics: 1 Be still, my soul; the Lord is on your side; Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain; Leave to your God to order and provide; In ev'ry change He faithful will remain. Be still, my soul; your best, your heav'nly Friend Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. 2 Be still, my soul; your God will undertake To guide the future as He has the past. Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake; All now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul; the waves and winds still know His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below. 3 Be still, my soul, though dearest friends depart And all is darkened in the vale of tears; Then you will better know His love, His heart, Who comes to soothe your sorrows and your fears. Be still, my soul; your Jesus can repay From His own fulness all He takes away. 4 Be still, my soul; the hour is hast'ning on When we shall be forever with the Lord, When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone, Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored. Be still, my soul; when change and tears are past, All safe and blessed we shall meet at last. Used With Tune: FINLANDIA
