Through All the Changing Scenes of Life

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 476 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34 Lyrics: 1 Through all the changing scenes of life, in trouble and in joy, the praises of my God shall still my heart and tongue employ. 2 Of his deliv'rance I will boast, till all that are distressed from my example comfort take, and sooth their griefs to rest. 3 O magnify the Lord with me, with me exalt his name; when in distress to him I called, he to my rescue came. 4 The hosts of God encamp around the dwellings of the just; deliv'rance he affords to all who in his promise trust. 5 O make but trial of his love; experience will decide how blest they are, and only they, who on his truth confide. 6 Fear him, ye saints, and you will then have nothing else to fear; make you his service your delight, your wants shall be his care. I told him all my secret grief, My secret groaning reached his ears; He gave my inward pains relief; And calmed the tumult of my fears. To him the poor lift up their eyes, Their faces feel the heav'nly shine; A beam of mercy from the skies Fills them with light and joy divine. His holy angels pitch their tents Around the men that serve the Lord; O fear and love him, all his saints, Taste of his grace, and trust his word. Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 52 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34:11-22 First Line: Come, children, learn to fear the Lord Lyrics: Come, children, learn to fear the Lord And that your days be long, Let not a false or spiteful word Be found upon your tongue. Depart from mischief, practise love, Pursue the works of peace; So shall the Lord your ways approve, And set your souls at ease. His eyes awake to guard the just, His ears attend their cry; When broken spirits dwell in dust, The God of grace is nigh. Tell His Praise in Song and Story

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smith Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 9 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34 Lyrics: 1 Tell his praise in song and story, bless the Lord with heart and voice; in my God is all my glory, come before him and rejoice. Join to praise his name together, he who hears his people's cry; tell his praise, come wind or weather, shining faces lifted high. 2 To the Lord whose love has found them cry the poor in their distress; swift his angels, camped around them, prove him sure to save and bless. God it is who hears our crying though the spark of faith be dim; taste and see! Beyond denying blest are those who trust in him. 3 Taste and see! In faith draw near him, trust the Lord with all your powers; seek and serve him, love and fear him, life and all its joys are ours-- true delight in holy living, peace and plenty, length of days; come, my children, with thanksgiving bless the Lord in songs of praise. 4 In our need he walks beside us, ears alert to every cry; watchful eyes to guard and guide us, love that whispers, "It is I." Good shall triumph, wrong be righted, God has pledged his promised word; so with ransomed saints united join to praise our living Lord! Psalm 34: God will I bless all times; his praise

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 8 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34 First Line: God will I bless all times; his praise Lyrics: 1God will I bless all times; his praise my mouth shall still express. 2My soul shall boast in God: the meek shall hear with joyfulness. 3Extol the Lord with me, let us exalt his name together. 4I sought the Lord, he heard, and did me from all fears deliver. 5They look’d to him, and lighten’d were: not shamed were their faces. 6This poor man cry’d, God heard, and sav’d him from all his distresses. 7The angel of the Lord encamps, and round encompasseth All those about that do him fear, and them delivereth. 8O taste and see that God is good: who trusts in him is bless’d. 9Fear God his saints: none that him fear shall be with want oppress’d. 10The lions young may hungry be, and they may lack their food: But they that truly seek the Lord shall not lack any good. 11O children, hither do ye come, and unto me give ear; I shall you teach to understand how ye the Lord should fear. 12What man is he that life desires, to see good would live long? 13Thy lips refrain from speaking guile, and from ill words thy tongue. 14Depart from ill, do good, seek peace, pursue it earnestly. 15God’s eyes are on the just; his ears are open to their cry. 16The face of God is set against those that do wickedly, That he may quite out from the earth cut off their memory. 17The righteous cry unto the Lord, he unto them gives ear; And they out of their troubles all by him deliver’d are. 18The Lord is ever nigh to them that be of broken sp’rit; To them he safety doth afford that are in heart contrite. 19The troubles that afflict the just in number many be; But yet at length out of them all the Lord doth set him free. 20He carefully his bones doth keep, whatever can befall; That not so much as one of them can broken be at all. 21Ill shall the wicked slay; laid waste shall be who hate the just. 22The Lord redeems his servants’ souls; none perish that him trust.

That he of them from off the land May cut the memory. 17 When as the righteous men do cry, The Lord doth hear their call; And gives to them delivery Out of their troubles all. 18 Jehovah near is such unto As broken-hearted be; Whose spirit contrite is also Ev'n such ones save will he 19 The just man's griefs are many a one, From all God sets him free; 20 He keepeth all his bones that none Of them shall broken be. 21 Evil shall slay the wicked man, And whosoever hate The righteous man, ev'n all of them Shall sure be desolate. 22 Their souls that do Jehovah serve He freely doth redeem: Nor utterly shall any swerve, That put their trust in him.

Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34 First Line: I will give laud and honour both Lyrics: 1 I will give laud and honour both unto the Lord alwaies: And eke my mouth for evermore shall speake unto his praise. 2 I do delight to laud the Lord, in soule and eke in voice, That humble men and mortifi'd may heare and to rejoyce. 3 Therefore see that ye magnifie with me the living Lord: And let us now exalt his Name together with one accord. 4 For I my selfe besought the Lord, he answered me againe, And me deliver'd incontinent, From all my feare and paine. 5 Who so they be that him behold, shall see his light most cleare, Their coantenance shall not be dasht, they need it not to feare. 6 This silly wretch for some reliefe unto the Lord did call: Who did him heare without delay, and rid him out of thrall. 7 The Angell of the Lord doth pitch his tents in every place: To save all such as feare the Lord, that nothing them deface. 8 Taste, and consider well therefore, that God is good and just: O happy man that maketh him his only stay and trust. 9 Feare ye the Lord ye holy ones, above all earthly thing: For they that feare the living Lord, are sure to lack nothing. 10 The Lions shall be hunger-bit, and pin'd with famine much: But as for them that feare the Lord, no lack shall be to such. The second Part. 11 Come neare therefore my children deare and to my words give eare: I shall ye teach the perfect way, how ye the Lord shall feare. 12 Who is the man that would live long and lead a blessed life? 13 See thou refraine thy tongue and lips from all deceit and strife. 14 Turn back thy face from doing ill, and do the godly deed: Inquire for peace and quietnesse, and follow it with speed. 15 For why? the eyes of God above, upon the just are bent: His eares likewise to heare the plaint of the poore innocent. 16 But he doth frown and bend his browes upon the wicked traine: And cuts away the memory that should of them remaine. 17 But when the just do call and cry, the Lord doth heare them so, That out of paine and misery forthwith he lets them go. 18 The Lord is kind and stright at hand to such as be contrite He saves also the sorrowfull, the poore and meeke in spirite. 19 Full many be the miseries, that righteous men do suffer: But out of all adversities the Lord doth tjee deliver. 20 The Lord doth so preserve and keep their very bones alway: That not so much as one of them doth perish or decay. 21 The sin shall slay the wicked man, which he himselfe hath wrought: And such as hate the righteous man shall soone be brought to nought. 22 But they that feare the living Lord the Lord doth save them sound: And who that put their trust in him, nothing shall them confound.

Run up with joy the shining way, T' embrace my dearest Lord. 5 Fearless of hell and ghastly death, I'd break through every foe; The wings of love, and arms of faith, Shall bear me conqueror through. Jesus, Where'er Thy People Meet

Author: William Cowper (1731-1800) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 516 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34 Lyrics: 1 Jesus, where'er thy people meet, there they behold thy mercy-seat; where'er they seek thee, thou art found, and every place is hallowed ground. 2 For thou, within no walls confined, inhabitest the humble mind; such ever bring you where they come, and going, take thee to their home. 3 Here may we prove the power of prayer to strengthen faith and sweeten care, to teach our faint desires to rise, and bring all heaven before our eyes. 4 Lord, we are few, but thou art near; nor short thine arm, nor deaf thine ear; O rend the heavens, come quickly down, and make a thousand hearts thine own! Triumph o'er the shades of night: Dayspring from on high, be near; Daystar, in my heart appear. 2 Dark and cheerless is the morn unaccompanied by thee; joyless is the day’s return till thy mercy’s beams I see, till they inward light impart, glad my eyes and warm my heart. 3 Visit then this soul of mine, pierce the gloom of sin and grief; fill me, Radiancy divine, scatter all my unbelief; more and more thyself display, shining to the perfect day. Meter: 12.9.12.12.9 Appears in 252 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 34 First Line: What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul Lyrics: 1 What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul! What wondrous love is this, O my soul! What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul, to bear the dreadful curse for my soul! 2 When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down, when I was sinking down, sinking down, when I was sinking down beneath God's righteous frown, Christ laid aside his crown for my soul, for my soul, Christ laid aside his crown for my soul. 3 To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing; to God and to the Lamb I will sing; to God and to the Lamb, who is the great I AM while millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing, while millions join the theme, I will sing. 4 And when from death I'm free, I'll sing on, I'll sing on, and when from death I'm free, I'll sing on. And when from death I'm free I'll sing and joyful be, and through eternity I'll sing on, I'll sing on, and through eternity I'll sing on.
