John W. Beebe

1853 - 1938 Person Name: Jno. W. Beebe Hymnal Number: 174 Author of "Made Whole" in Songs of Joy and Gladness No. 2 John W. Beebe,was born in Milford, Delaware on August 3, 1853. He moved to Indiana in 1873. He moved to Kansas in 1878 but returned to Anderson, Indiana in 1894 where he served as deputy recorder for two years and then as bookkeeper at the First National Bank of Elwood. He was author of Prairie Flowers (G. W. Crane & co., printers, Topeka, Kan. 1891) a book of poetry. He died in Elwood, Indiana June 10, 1938. Born at Leixlip, Ireland, she was a poet and hymn lyricist. She wrote “A royal service and other poems” (1877). She was a sister to William Frederick Pigott ,a missionary to China, He was murdered in the 1901 Boxer Rebellion, along with 76 other missionaries working with missionary, Hudson Taylor, but in other parts of China.. Taylor was overcome with grief to hear of the massacre, and took much comfort in Pigott’s hymn. She died at Leixlip, Ireland. John Perry

Died: February 15, 1904, Ocean Grove, New Jersey. Buried: Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Daughter of Robert Elliott Johnston and Grace Acheson Johnston, Emma was baptized at the Salem Methodist Episcopal Church. She attended different churches in Philadelphia, including Ebenezer Methodist Episcopal Church, where composer William Kirkpatrick also worshipped. She worked as a school teacher, and McElroy’s 1873 Directory of Philadelphia listed her as an authoress.
