Joy dawned again on Easter-Day

Author: J. M. Neale Appears in 77 hymnals Topics: Lent Eastertide Lyrics: 1 Joy dawned again on Easter-Day, The sun shone out with fairer ray, When, to their longing eyes restored, The Apostles saw their risen Lord. 2 His risen flesh with radiance glowed; His wounded hands and feet He showed: Those scars their silent witness gave That Christ was risen from the grave. 3 O Jesus, King of gentleness, Do Thou our inmost hearts possess; And we to Thee will ever raise The tribute of our grateful praise. 4 Jesus, who art the Lord of all, In this our Easter festival, From every weapon death can wield Thine own redeemed, Thy people, shield. 5 All praise, O risen Lord, we give To Thee, Who, dead, again dost live; To God the Father equal praise, And God the Holy Ghost, we raise. Used With Tune: PUER NOBIS

Jesus, Grant That Balm and Healing

Author: Johann Heermann, 1585-1647 Meter: 8.7.8.7.7.7.8.8 Appears in 23 hymnals Topics: Lent Lyrics: 1 Jesus, grant that balm and healing in your holy wounds I find, ev'ry hour that I am feeling pains of body and of mind. Should some evil thought within tempt my treach'rous heart to sin, show the peril, and from sinning keep me from its first beginning. 2 Should some lust or sharp temptation fascinate my sinful mind, let me think about your passion, and new courage I shall find. Or should Satan press me hard, let me then be on my guard, saying, "Christ for me was wounded," that the tempter flee confounded. 3 If the world my heart entices with the broad and easy road, with seductive, sinful vices, let me weigh the awful load you were willing to endure. Help me flee all thoughts impure, master each wild temptation, calm in prayer and meditation. 4 Ev'ry wound that pains or grieves me by your wounds, Lord, is made whole; when I'm weak, your cross revives me, granting new life to my soul. Yes, your comfort renders sweet ev'ry bitter cup I meet; for your all-atoning passion has procured my soul's salvation. 5 O my God, my rock and tower, grant that in your death I trust, knowing death has lost its power since you crushed it in the dust. Savior, let your agony ever help and comfort me; when I die be my protection, light and life and resurrection. Scripture: Matthew 6:13 Used With Tune: DER AM KREUZ Text Sources: Tr. composite

Jesus, Savior, come to me!

Author: Johann Scheffler (Angelus Silesius); Rev. Matthias Loy, D. D. Appears in 14 hymnals Topics: Third Sunday in Lent; Sixth Sunday in Lent Lyrics: 1 Jesus, Savior! come to me, Let me ever be with Thee; Come, and nevermore depart, Thou who reignest in my heart. 2 Ever do I for Thee sigh, Nothing else can satisfy. Ever do I cry to Thee: Jesus, Jesus, come to me! 3 Earthly joys can give no peace, Ne'er can bid my longing cease; Still to have my Jesus near, This is all my pleasure here. 4 All that makes the angels glad, In their garb of glory clad, Only fills me with distress If Thy presence does not bless. 5 Take Thou all away from me, I shall still thus minded be, Thou who madest me Thine own Shalt be all my joy alone. 6 None shall claim my heart beside, None but Jesus crucified; Savior, I am only Thine, Other love shall ne'er be mine. 7 Thou alone, my God and Lord, Art my glory and reward; Thou hast bled for me and died, I will be no other's bride. 8 Come, then, Lamb for sinners slain, Come and ease me of my pain; Evermore I cry to Thee: Jesus, Jesus, come to me! 9 Patiently I wait and pray; Jesus do not say me nay; That when death shall come to me, Thou my Jesus sweet wilt be.
