Jerusalem, my happy home

Appears in 618 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Jerusalem, my happy home, When shall I come to thee? When shall my sorrows have an end? Thy joys when shall I see? 2 O happy harbor of the saints, O sweet and pleasant soil! In thee no sorrow may be found, No grief, no care, no toil. 3 Thy gardens and thy gallant walks Continually are green; There grow such sweet and pleasant flowers As nowhere else are seen. 4 Quite through the streets with silver sound The flood of life doth flow, Upon whose banks on every side The wood of life doth grow. 5 There trees for evermore bear fruit, And evermore do spring; There evermore the angels sit, And evermore do sing. 6 Jerusalem, my happy home, Would God I were in thee! Would God my woes were at an end, Thy joys that I might see! Topics: The Church Year Saints' Days - Minor Festivals; The Church The House of God; The Life In Christ Life Everlasting Used With Tune: SOUTHWELL (IRONS) Text Sources: Based on St. Augustine, F. B. P., cir. XVI cent.

How bright these glorious spirits shine!

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 156 hymnals Lyrics: 1 How bright these glorious spirits shine! whence all their white array? How came they to the blissful seats of everlasting day? 2 Lo, these are they from suff'rings great, who came to realms of light, and in the blood of Christ have wash'd those robes that shine so bright. 3 Now, with triumphal palms they stand before the throne on high, and serve the God they love, amidst the glories of the sky. 4 His presence fills each heart with joy, tunes ev'ry mouth to sing: by day, by night, the sacred courts with glad hosannas ring. 5 Hunger and thirst are felt no more, nor sun with scorching ray: God is their sun, whose cheering beams diffuse eternal day. 6 The Lamb, who dwells amidst the throne shall o'er them still preside, feed them with nourishment divine, and all their footsteps guide. 7 'Mong pastures green he'll lead his flock, where living streams appear; and God the Lord from every eye shall wipe off ev'ry tear. Father of mercies, in thy word

Author: Anne Steele, 1716-1778 Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 755 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Father of mercies, in thy word, what endless glory shines! Forever be thy name adored for these celestial lines. 2 Here may the blind and hungry come, and light and food receive; here shall the lowliest guest have room, and taste and see and live. 3 Here springs of consolation rise to cheer the fainting mind, and thirsting souls receive supplies, and sweet refreshment find. 4 Here the Redeemer's welcome voice spreads heavenly peace around, and life and everlasting joys attend the blissful sound. 5 O may these heavenly pages be my ever dear delight, and still new beauties may I see, and still increasing light. 6 Divine instructor, gracious Lord, be thou for ever near: teach me to love thy sacred word, and view my Saviour here.
