1917 - 1994 Scripture: Philippians 1:3-11 Translator of "Juntos Marchamos" in Himnario Bautista Born: January 4, 1917, Managua, Nicaragua. Died: April 1, 1994, Texas. Pseudonyms: Daniel R. Diaz Pablo Filós Robleto attended the Colegio Bautista in Managua (graduated 1940), and the Baptist Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana, and pastored churches in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Texas. He also directed the Department of Administration of Churches and Pastoral Leadership, edited The Christian Home for the Casa Bautista de Publicaciones, and translated about 200 hymns from English to Spanish. Thomas Ravenscroft

1592 - 1635 Person Name: Thomas Ravenscroft, 1592-1635 Scripture: Philippians 1:6 Harmonizer of "DUNDEE" in Worship and Rejoice Thomas Ravenscroft United Kingdom 1592-1635. Born at Sussex, England, he allegedly sang in the choir at St Paul’s Cathedral. He attended music lectures at Gresham College. He was educated at Cambridge College, graduating in 1607. From 1618-1622 he was music master at Christ’s Hospital. Many of his works were aimed at pleasing a middle class lay public. He collected folk music: “Pammelia” (1609), “Deuteromelia” [includes the song “Three blind mice”](1609), “Melismata” (1611). He also published a metrical Psalter (the whole book of Psalms) in 1621. He composed 11 anthems, three motets, and four fantasies. He also wrote two treatises on music theory: “A briefe discourse of the true (but neglected) use of charact'ring the degrees” (1614), and “A treatise of musick”. He was an author, compiler, composer, editor, arranger, musician, bibliographer, contributor, antecedent, lyricist and creator. No informaton found regarding family. Charles S. Robinson

1829 - 1899 Person Name: Charles Seymour Robinson, 1829-1899 Scripture: Philippians 1:21 Translator of "For Me to Live is Christ" in The Christian Hymnary. Bks. 1-4 Robinson, Charles Seymour, D.D., was born at Bennington, Vermont, March 31, 1829, and educated at William College, 1849, and in theology, at Union Seminary, New York (1852-53), and Princeton (1853-55). He became Presbyterian Pastor at Troy, 1855; at Brooklyn, 1860; of the American chapel in Paris (France), 1868; and of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, New York, 1870. During 1876-77 he was editor of the Illustrated Christian Weekly. As an editor of hymn-books he has been most successful. His Songs of the Church were published in 1862; Songs for the Sanctuary, 1865; Spiritual Songs, 1878; and Laudes Domini, A Selection of Spiritual Songs, Ancient and Modern, 1884. His Songs for the Sanctuary has probably had a wider sale than any other unofficial American collection of any denomination, and the Laudes Domini is a book of great excellence. Dr. Robinson has composed a few hymns, including, "Saviour, I follow on" (Following Christ), in his Song of the Church, 1862, and "Isles of the South, your redemption is nearing " (Missions), in his Songs for the Sanctuary, 1865. William Watkins Reid

1923 - 2007 Person Name: William Watkins Reid, b. 1923 Scripture: Philippians 1:27 Author of "Help us, O Lord, to learn" in Singing the Faith William W. Reid, Jr. (1923-2007), after graduating from Oberlin College and Seminary and Yale Divinity School served for more than fifty years as pastor in the Wyoming Conference in rural and inner-city Methodist churches. He served on the Executive Committee of The Hymn Society of America. He was involved in social issues, serving as a councilman and county commissioner. His hymns are widely published in hymnals of many denominations. Mary Louise VanDyke =============================== William W. Reid, Jr. is pastor of the Methodist Church Circuit at Carverton, Pennsylvania. He previously served in a similar capacity at Camptown in the same State. He is a graduate of the Yale Divinity School and Oberlin College. He served during World War II in the Medical Corps and was held prisoner by the Germans for eight months. He is the author of several hymns including those in "Fourteen New Rural Hymns" and "Twelve New World Order Hymns" published by the Hymn Society. ----Fifteen New Christian Education Hymns, 1959. Methodist. Parents were William Reid, a native of Moneymore, near Belfast, and Sarah Watkins of Londonderry. Came to the United States in 1900. Attended New York University (bachelor's degree, 1915; master's degree in journalism, 1917). Served The Hymn Society as President, Executive Director, and Editor of The Hymn from 1966 to 1976. Authored the Hymn Society's 40th anniversary history, Sing with Spirit and Understanding. Also edited The Pastor's Journal for the Methodist church and worked as its director of the News Service of the Board of Missions.
