Savior, Sprinkle Many Nations

Author: Arthur C. Coxe; W. Gustave Polack Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 160 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 54:2 Lyrics: 1 Savior, sprinkle many nations, Fruitful let Thy sorrows be; By Thy pains and consolations Draw the Gentiles unto Thee! Of Thy Cross the wondrous story, Be it to the nations told; Let them see Thee in Thy glory And Thy mercy manifold. 2 Let to mortals all be given Thee to know and life to gain, Thee, the very God of heaven, Thee, the Man for sinners slain. Speak Thou hope to ev'ry mortal Thro' the Gospel, sweet and blest; Lead them thro' Thy kingdom's portal To eternal peace and rest. 3 Great the need in ev'ry nation, Dense the darkness of sin's night; Let Thy Spirit bring salvation, Love's pure flame, and wisdom's light. Give the Word, Thy preachers strengthen With the prophets' pow'r of old, Help them Zion's cords to lengthen, All Thy wand'ring sheep to fold. Amen. Jesus, Priceless Treasure

Author: Johann Franck, 1618-1677; Catherine Winkworth, 1827-1878 Meter: 6.6.5.6.6.5.7.8.6 Appears in 131 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 54:10 Lyrics: 1 Jesus, priceless treasure, fount of purest pleasure, truest friend to me. Ah, how long in anguish shall my spirit languish, yearning, Lord, for thee? Thou art mine, O Lamb divine! I will suffer naught to hide thee; naught I ask beside thee. 2 In thine arms I rest me; foes who would oppress me cannot reach me here. Though the earth be shaking, ev'ry heart be quaking, Jesus calms my fear. Lightnings flash and thunders crash; yet, though sin and hell assail me, Jesus will not fail me. 3 Satan, I defy thee; death, I now decry thee; fear, I bid thee cease. World, thou shalt not harm me nor thy threats alarm me while I sing of peace. God's great pow'r guards ev'ry hour; earth and all its depths adore him, silent bow before him. 4 Hence with earthly treasure! Jesus is my pleasure, Jesus is my choice. Hence, all empty glory! Naught to me thy story told with tempting voice. Pain or loss or shame or cross shall not from my Savior move me since he deigns to love me. 5 Hence, all fear and sadness! For the Lord of gladness, Jesus, enters in. Those who love the Father, though the storms may gather, still have peace within. Yea, whate'er I here must bear, thou art still my purest pleasure, Jesus, priceless treasure! Topics: Trust Used With Tune: JESU, MEINE FREUDE Text Sources: Tr. st. 3: The Lutheran Hymnal, 1941

But greater, Lord, thou art, Than all my doubts and fears. Did Jesus once upon me shine? Then Jesus is forever mine. 2 Unchangeable his will, Tho' dark may be my frame; His loving heart is still Eternally the same: My soul thro' many changes goes; His love no variation knows. 3 Thou, Lord, wilt carry on, And perfectly perform The work, thou hast begun In me a sinful worm: Midst all my fears, and sin, and woe, Thy spirit will not let me go. 4 The bowels of thy grace At first did freely move: I still shall see thy face, And feel that God is love. Myself into thine arms I cast; Lord, save, O save, my soul at last. Topics: The Eternal and Unchangeable Love of God, commemorated in Hymns of Thanksgiving

Author: Johan N. Brun; George T. Rygh; Carl Döving Meter: 8.7.8.7.6.6.6.6.7 Appears in 7 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 54:10 Lyrics: 1 Our Lord and God, oh, bless this day And hear us, we implore Thee; None of Thy children turn away Who now appear before Thee. We come before Thy face And pray: Let Thy rich grace Descend from heav'n above In all Thy wondrous love And keep us by Thy Spirit. 2 Oh, bless Thy Word to all the young; Let them, Thy truth possessing, Bear witness true with heart and tongue, Their faith and ours confessing. From mother's arms Thy grace With love did them embrace; Baptized into Thy name, As Thine Thou didst them claim. O Lord, as Thine now own them! 3 When they their vows today renew, Accept them with Thy favor; And when they promise to be true, May they forget it never! But they are weak and frail When Satan's hosts assail; Oh, arm them with Thy might And grant that in the fight They unto death be faithful! 4 And when they leave their childhood home, When Satan comes alluring, May their baptismal grace become A refuge reassuring! Blest he who then can say: "God's cov'nant stands for aye." He ne'er shall be undone Who trusts in God alone-- God is his mighty Father! Amen. Topics: Confirmation Used With Tune: REUTER

The mountains shall depart

Author: James Montgomery Meter: 6.6.6.6.8.8 Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Isaiah 54:10 Lyrics: "The mountains shall depart, The hills shall be removed, Faithful, O Lord! Thou art, Faithful hast ever proved, And faithful to eternity, Thy word of promise stands to me. "That blessed word I prove, I know Thee as Thou art; Thy kindness will not move, Nor can Thy truth depart; With me, Thy covenant of peace Is seal'd, is sure, and shall not cease." Thus may the mourner say In the dark hour of grief, When the first trembling ray Of comfort darts relief Into the dungeon of his soul, Till love, joy, peace, illume the whole. Down, then, the dungeon falls, A palace straight upsprings, Salvation guards the walls, And lo! the King of kings Enters with all his glorious train, For ever in that soul to reign. The Faithfulness of God

Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Isaiah 54:10 First Line: Almighty Sov'reign, gracious Lord Lyrics: I. Almighty Sov'reign, gracious Lord, How full, how firm, thy royal word! Thy love, how condescending and how kind! Nor can the pow'r of language more, With all its force, with all its store, Confirm the sacred deed, or more securely bind. II. Sooner the mountains shall depart, And from their firm foundations start, Than thy eternal kindness shall remove! Or be I shaken from thy heart, If ever there I had a part, If ever I possest an int'rest in thy love. III. Yes, Lord, thy promises are clear, Thy pow'r and faithfulness appear; Nor can I doubt omnipotence and grace: But ah! myself, my sins I fear, These springs of doubt are ever near, These gloomy clouds which rise and hide thy lovely face. IV. O let thy mercy's healing ray Arise, and chase these clouds away; Thy spirit's witness (evidence divine!) Beam o'er my soul with sacred light; Then shall my joys all pure and bright, Unclouded and serene, with pleasing lustre shine.
