O What Shall I Do, My Savior to Praise

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 87 hymnals First Line: O what shall I do my Savior to praise Lyrics: 1. O what shall I do my Savior to praise, So faithful and true, so plenteous in grace, So strong to deliver, so good to redeem The weakest believer that hangs upon Him! 2. How happy the man whose heart is set free, The people that can be joyful in Thee! Their joy is to walk in the light of Thy face, And still they are talking of Jesus’ grace. 3. Their daily delight shall be in Thy name; They shall as their right Thy righteousness claim; Thy righteousness wearing, and cleansed by Thy blood, Bold shall they appear in the presence of God. 4. For Thou art their boast, their glory and power; And I also trust to see the glad hour, My soul’s new creation, a life from the dead, The day of salvation, that lifts up my head. 5. For Jesus, my Lord, is now my defense; I trust in His Word, none plucks me from thence; Since I have found favor, He all things will do; My King and my Savior shall make me anew. 6. Yes, Lord, I shall see the bliss of Thine own, Thy secret to me shall soon be made known; For sorrow and sadness I joy shall receive, And share in the gladness of all that believe. Disposer Supreme, and Judge of the Earth

Author: Jean B. de Santeuil; Isaac Williams Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 35 hymnals Lyrics: 1. Disposer supreme, and Judge of the earth, Who choosest for Thine the weak and the poor; To frail earthen vessels and things of no worth Entrusting Thy riches which aye shall endure. 2. Those vessels soon fail, though full of Thy light, And at Thy decree, are broken and gone; Thence brightly appeareth Thy truth in its might, As through the clouds riven the lightnings have shone. 3. Like clouds they are borne to do Thy great will, And swift as the winds about the world go; The Word with His wisdom their spirits doth fill, They thunder, they lighten, the waters o’erflow. 4. Their sound goeth forth, Christ Jesus the Lord; Then Satan doth fear, his citadels fall; As when the dread trumpets went forth at Thy Word, And one long blast shattered the Canaanite’s wall. 5. O loud be their trump, and stirring their sound, To rouse us, O Lord, from slumber of sin; The lights Thou hast kindled in darkness around, O may they illumine our spirits within. 6. All honor and praise, dominion and might, To God, Three in One, eternally be; Who round us hath shed His own marvelous light, And called us from darkness His glory to see. My Soul, Praise the LORD!

Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 9 hymnals First Line: My soul, praise the LORD! The LORD is most great Refrain First Line: Your Spirit, O LORD, makes life to abound Lyrics: 1 My soul, praise the LORD! The LORD is most great, with glory arrayed, majestic in state. The light is his garment, the skies form a tent, and over the waters his couriers are sent. 2 He rides on the clouds and wings of the storm. The lightning and wind his mission perform. Foundations of earth he forever has stayed; to cover it, oceans like garments were laid. 3 On mountains and plains the dark waters lay. They heard his rebuke and hurried away. He lifted the mountains, to valleys gave birth, set boundaries for seas that once covered the earth. Refrain: Your Spirit, O LORD, makes life to abound. The earth is renewed, and fruitful the ground. To God be all glory and wisdom and might. May God in his creatures forever delight. 4 God causes the springs of water to flow in streams from the hills to valleys below. The LORD gives the streams for all living things there, while birds with their singing enrapture the air. 5 Down mountains and hills your showers are sent. With fruit of your work the earth is content. You give grass for cattle and food for our toil, enriching our labors with bread, wine, and oil. 6 The trees that the LORD has planted are fed, and over the earth their branches are spread. They keep in their shelter the birds of the air. The life of each creature God keeps in his care. [Refrain] 7 The seasons are fixed by wisdom divine. The slow-changing moon shows forth God's design. The sun in its circuit its Maker obeys and, running its journey, hastes not nor delays. 8 The LORD makes the night, when, leaving their lair, the lions go forth, God's bounty to share. The LORD makes the morning, when beasts steal away, when we are beginning the work of the day. 9 How many and wise the works of the LORD! The earth with its wealth of creatures is stored. The sea bears in safety the ships to and fro; Leviathan plays in the waters below. 10 Your creatures all look to you for their food. Your hand opens wide, they gather the good. When you hide your face, LORD, in anguish they yearn; when you stop their breathing, to dust they return. [Refrain] 11 Before the LORD's might earth trembles and quakes. The mountains are rent, and smoke from them breaks. I promise to worship the LORD all my days. Yes, while I have being, my God I will praise. 12 Rejoicing in God, my thought shall be sweet. May sinners depart in ruin complete. My soul, praise the LORD God - his name be adored. Come, praise him, all people, and worship the LORD.

My people, give ear, attend to my word

Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 11 hymnals Lyrics: 1 My people, give ear, attend to my word, In parables new deep truths shall be heard; The wonderful story our fathers made known To children succeeding by us must be shown. 2 Instructing our sons we gladly record The praises, the works, the might of the Lord, For he has commanded that what he has done Be passed in tradition from father to son. 3 Let children thus learn from history's light To hope in our God and walk in his sight, The God of their fathers to fear and obey, And ne'er like their fathers to turn from his way. 4 The story be told, to warn and restrain, Of hearts that were hard, rebellious, and vain, Of soldiers who faltered when battle was near, Who kept not God's cov'nant nor walked in his fear. 5 God's wonderful works to them he had shown, His marvelous deeds their fathers had known; He made for their pathway the waters divide, His glorious pillar of cloud was their guide. 6 Unharmed through the sea, where perished their foe, He caused them with ease and safety to go; His holy land gaining, in peace they were brought To dwell in the mountain the Lord's hand had bought. 7 He gave them the land, a heritage fair; The nations that dwelt in wickedness there He drove out before them with great overthrow, And gave to his people the tents of the foe. 8 His servant he called, a shepherd of sheep, From tending his flock, the people to keep; So David, their shepherd, with wisdom and might Protected and fed them and led them aright. Amen. The People Of God

Author: Charles Wesley, 1707-1788 Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 2 hymnals First Line: The people of God, Jehovah we praise Lyrics: 1 The people of God, Jehovah we praise As bought by His blood, and saved by His grace; Who daily delivers and ransoms His own, And waters with rivers of life from His throne. 2 Redeemed from the foe,we Jesus proclaim, And triumph to know the power of His name. Preserved from all evil, through God the most high, The world, and the devil, and sin we defy. 3 Much more than our sin His grace doth abound; His kingdom within our bosom is found: His blood’s application the blessing imparts, The inward salvation, and hallows our hearts. 4 Triumphing we go, to triumph again, Till death, the last foe, by Jesus is slain; His death shall release us, called out of our graves, To witness that Jesus eternally saves. O praise ye the Lord! praise Him in the height; Rejoice in His Word, ye angels of light; Ye heavens, adore Him by whom ye were made, And worship before Him in brightness arrayed. 2. O praise ye the Lord! Praise Him upon earth, In tuneful accord, ye sons of new birth; Praise Him who hath brought you His grace from above, Praise Him who hath taught you to sing of His love. 3. O praise ye the Lord! All things that give sound; Each jubilant chord re-echo around; Loud organs, His glory forth tell in deep tone, And sweet harp, the story of what He hath done. 4. O praise ye the Lord! Thanksgiving and song To Him be outpoured all ages along! For love in creation, for Heaven restored, For grace of salvation, O praise ye the Lord! 5. O praise ye the Lord and sing a new song, Amid all His saints His praises prolong; The praise of their Maker His people shall sing, And children of Zion rejoice in their King. 6. With timbrel and harp and joyful acclaim, With gladness and mirth, sing praise to His name, For God in His people His pleasure doth seek, With robes of salvation He clotheth the meek. 7. In glory exult, ye saints of the Lord; With songs in the night, high praises accord; Go forth in His service, be strong in His might, To conquer all evil and stand for the right. 8. For this is His Word: His saints shall not fail, But over the earth their power shall prevail; All kingdoms and nations shall yield to their sway. To God give the glory and praise Him for aye. O Come All Ye Saints

Author: Franklin Hunter Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 1 hymnal First Line: O come all ye saints, in glorious dress Lyrics: 1. O come all ye saints, in glorious dress, Arrayed in His love, and His righteousness. Come sing in His presence, come speak of His grace He’s standing among us, behold His dear face. 2. With hearts ready tuned, our voices entwine Together we’ll sing His praises divine. Lift high the great chorus, yea sound it abroad To Jesus our Saviour, omnipotent God. 3. O glad is the soul and joyful the heart, That centres the thoughts, so none can depart, From worshipping Jesus, from praising His name This then is that river, and this is His fame. 4. Bless ye then the Lord, who serve day and night, Who stand in His house, a wonderful sight Where seraphs are bowing, where angels attend, The seat of His mercy, where praises all blend. 5. Say Yes to His praise, and Yes for His love Speak often of peace that comes from above. Call mercy, a river, watch grace flowing through This glorious salvation, says this is for you. 6. Our theme then shall be to worship the Lord In spirit to sing the truth of His word Come join in our praises, the anthems prolong For Jesus is coming, that day won’t be long. Used With Tune: HANOVER

My soul, praise the Lord, thou, Lord, mine own God

Meter: 10.10.11.11 Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 My soul, praise the Lord, thou, Lord, mine own God, art glorious, enrobed in beauty and might; 2 the heavens, like a curtain, thou spreadest abroad; as raiment, around thee enfoldest the light. 3 For chambers-beams sure, dark waters he binds; of clouds dim and deep his chariot doth frame, on stormy blasts riding, on wings of all winds; 4 his angels are spirits, his servants a flame. 5 Foundations secure he laid for the globe, that stable and firm it ever should last; 6 the waste ocean gathering o'er all as a robe: o'er all the high mountains the surging waves passed. 7 At thy dread rebuke they flee and they fail; thy thunder is heard, they speed here and there; 8 they burst the ridge over, they rush down the vale; where thou hast appointed, they haste to repair. 9 Thine own word hath set their border and bound, they roar and they toss, but cannot pass o'er: the word of Jehovah a sure fence is found; the flood o'er the mountains returneth no more. 10 He unto the vales the springs doth convey; and onward they wind their course through the hills; 11 whereat the wild asses their thirst oft allay, and beasts of the forest thereof drink their fills. 12 By thee pleasant springs, the fowls of the air inhabit the trees, the margin along; and, as in their gladness they move here and there among the green branches, praise God with their song. 13 His rain on the hills he pours from on high, with fruit of thy works the earth is replete; 14 his grass to the cattle he doth not deny, and gives for man's service the green herb as meat. 15 From earth, store of good he brings for man's sake; rich oil, gladsome wine, heart-strengthening bread. 16 His trees full of moisture the great God did make; his cedars he planted on Lebanon's head. 17 Secure in those shades the bird builds her nest; the firs to the stork a house have supplied; 18 the hills are a refuge for wild goats to rest; the crags of the rough rocks for conies to hide. 19 The moon he hath set for seasons to run; the times he ordained her change ever shows; and so, his course circling, the glorious sun his hour of descending as constantly knows. 20 When darkness doth come by thy will and power, then prowl forth abroad the beasts of the wood. 21 The lions rang roaring their prey to devour; and yet it is thou, Lord, who givest them food. 22 As riseth the sun, they all get them in; withdrawn from his light, to couch in their den; 23 but man forth proceedeth his toil to begin; till night come to call him to take rest again. 24 How manifold, Lord, the works of thy hand! Surpassing our thoughts their numbers are found! Thy outspread creation in wisdom is planned, and full of thy riches the wide world around. 23 So in the great sea thy works are displayed, where creeping things move, unnumbered in sort; 26 and there the ships wander, and there thou hast made Leviathan, hugest of monsters, to sport. 27 All these wait on thee their food to receive; that thou, in due time, their portion may'st give: 18 and, when it doth pleasethee their wants to relieve, full gladly they gather thy bounty and live. Thou openest thine hand; how full their supply! 29 Thou hidest thy face, confounded they mourn: when thou from them takest their spirit, they die, and to their dust, changing, again they return. 30 Thou send'st forth thy breath, and they are new made; and earth, as at first, looks vernal and bright. 31 In glory for ever the Lord is arrayed, and in his creation our God will delight. 32 He looks on the earth, it reels to and fro; he touches the hills, with smoke they are crowned. 33 Through life to Jehovah mine anthems shall flow; while yet I have being his praise I will sound. 34 With dear thoughts of him my heart shall run o'er; with God all my joy in treasure is stored. 35 The sinners are wasted; earth sees them no more, the rebels — where are they? My soul, praise the Lord. Scripture: Psalm 104 Used With Tune: HANOVER
