We’re sanctified wholly through faith in the blood; The true light now shineth, the darkness is past; Our sorrow and sighing is ended at last. 2 Though we have been scattered by sects and by creeds, Now home to Mount Zion our good Shepherd leads; The light was not clear in the dark, cloudy day, But pure evening light now reveals the true way. We Wait the Peaceful Kingdom

Moore Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: Isaiah 11:6-9 Lyrics: 1 We wait the peaceful kingdom, when wolf and lamb shall lie in gentleness and friendship without a fear or sigh, when lion shall be grazing, when snake shall never strike; a little child shall lead us both strong and weak alike. 2 Where is the peaceful kingdom? When will this new day start? We long for peace and comfort to reign within each heart. Yet not in our lives only, nor simply in our home: we pray that all creation will one day find shalom. 3 When wars of desolation and hate come to an end, when nation meets with nation and calls the other "friend," still peace in all its fullness will only have begun: shalom for all creation begins with justice done. 4 That little child shall lead us to walk the chosen way, to share the peaceful kingdom, to greet God's newborn day. Eternal God, Whose Power Upholds

Author: Henry Hallam Tweedy Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 53 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 11:9 Lyrics: 1 Eternal God, whose power upholds Both flower and flaming star, To whom there is no here nor there, No time, no near nor far, No alien race, no foreign shore, No child unsought, unknown: O send us forth, Thy prophets true, To make all lands Thine own! 2 O God of love, whose Spirit wakes In every human breast, Whom love, and love alone, can know, In whom all hearts find rest: Help us to spread Thy gracious reign Till greed and hate shall cease, And kindness dwell in human hearts, And all the earth find peace! 3 O God of truth, whom science seeks And reverent souls adore, Who lightest every earnest mind Of every clime and shore: Dispel the gloom of error’s night, Of ignorance and fear, Until true wisdom from above Shall make life’s pathway clear! 4 O God of beauty, oft revealed In dreams of human art, In speech that flows to melody, In holiness of heart: Teach us to turn from sinfulness That shuts our hearts to Thee, Till all shall know the loveliness Of lives made fair and free! 5 O God of righteousness and grace, Seen in the Christ, Thy Son, Whose life and death reveal Thy face, By whom Thy will was done: Inspire Thy heralds of good news To live Thy life divine, Till Christ has formed in all mankind And every land is Thine! It Came upon the Midnight Clear

Author: Edmund H. Sears Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 869 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 11:9 Lyrics: 1 It came upon the midnight clear, that glorious song of old, from angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold: "Peace on the earth, good will to men, from heaven's all gracious King": the world in solemn stillness lay to hear the angels sing. 2 Still through the cloven skies they come, with peaceful wings unfurled, and still their heavenly music floats o'er all the weary world; above its sad and lowly plains they bend on hovering wing, and ever o'er its Babel sounds the blessed angels sing. 3 For lo, the days are hastening on, by prophets seen of old, when, with the ever-circling years, shall come the time foretold, when peace shall over all the earth its ancient splendors fling, and all the world give back the song which now the angels sing. Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 235 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 11:2 First Line: Come, Holy Ghost, our hearts inspire (Wesley) Lyrics: 1. Come, Holy Ghost, our hearts inspire, let us thine influence prove, source of the old prophetic fire, fountain of life and love. 2. Come, Holy Ghost (for moved by thee the prophets wrote and spoke), unlock the truth, thyself the key, unseal the sacred book. 3. Expand thy wings, Celestial Dove, brood o'er our nature's night; on our disordered spirits move, and let there now be light. 4. The Times of Refreshing

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 59 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 11:9 First Line: On Sion, his most holy mount Lyrics: 1 On Sion his most holy mount, God will a feast prepare, And Israel's sons, and Gentile lands, Shall in the banquet share. 2 Marrow and fatness are the food His bounteous hand bestows: Wine on the lees, and well refin'd, In rich abundance flows. 3 See to the vilest of the vile A free acceptance giv'n! See, rebels by adopting grace Sit with the heirs of heav'n! 4 The pain'd, the sick, the dying, now To ease and health restor'd, With eager appetites partake The plenties of the board. 5 But O what draughts of bliss unknown, What dainties shall be giv'n, When, with the myriads round the throne, We join the feast of heav'n! 6 There joys immeasurably high Shall overflow the soul, And springs of life, that never dry, In thousand channels roll. Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 182 hymnals Scripture: Isaiah 11:1-10 Lyrics: 1 Behold! The mountain of the Lord in latter days shall rise on mountain tops above the hills, and draw the wondering eyes. 2 The beam that shines from Zion hill shall lighten every land; the king who reigns in Salem's towers shall all the world command. 3 Among the nations he shall judge, with judgements true shall guide; his sceptre shall protect the just, and quell the sinner's pride. 4 No strife shall rage, nor hostile feuds disturb those peaceful years; to ploughshares all shall beat their swords, to pruning-hooks their spears. 5 No longer hosts encountering hosts shall crowds of slain deplore: they hang the trumpet in the hall, and study war no more. 6 Come then, O come from every land to worship at God's shrine; and, walking in the radiant light, with holy beauties shine.
